So where is the Deathleaper?

I have been doing some reading, and seeing alot of posts. Alot of people complaining about SW JotWW or people going to be spaming Runic weapons or Runes of warding (BTW what are they? LOL)

So my question is why are people not using the Deathleaper then? A 1-3 minus Ld? Helloooooo. Also try and get a unit or 2 or 3 into Shadow of the Warp and then they are using 3 dice for that Ld test wich is a minus 1-3.

I am surprised people are not using this tactic alot.

If you are not using the DL why not? If you are, how is it going for you?

Also, I have a Lictor mini, how does it compare to size of the DL? Right now, because of the price, I find better value for my money getting other minis than the DL. So would using my Lictor be ok for a DL if not using any other Lictors?

About the same size of a lictor really. Just use a lictor, unless you already include them in the list... Which I really doubt you do.

I am using him and he is doing well right now. The -D3 Ld is pretty cool. I put it on the Warlord when there are no psykers. Defence grenades suck though as you have to be in 6" to use the flesh hooks.

As for the mini, I'm currently using my old mantis style Lictor from 2nd Ed. I don't have any other Lictors in my army so its ok. I tend to use 2 or 3rd ed models for special charaters or primes.

Haha, yeah I know. I meant as a count as model instead of using money on the Deathleaper model... which looks pretty ugly compared to the lictor model IMO.

Can't rememeber, no codex or rule book on hand. is the DL a character now?

The -d3 leadership is great... But it can only affect one of their characters the entire game, once dead you don't get to choose another target either.

Against an enemy that spams psykers, deathleaper isn't going to have a huge effect.

So you are using one of our valuable elite slots for what is essentially a 140pt one trick pony. Specially if you only bring him for that one ability with nothing to back him up.

I use him for 5 reasons.

1) To eat lightly guarded vehicles in the back.
2) To attack units in cover.
3) Slow enemy advances (they haven't FAQed "What was that" yet).
4) Last turn objective contesting.
5) He is a distraction unit that is HARD to kill. +2 coversaves are nice when you can actully charge out of it with no problems.

The -D3 is just icing on the cake.

I could see myself using Deathleaper in a Crushigon build. Deathleaper would take the place of Doom in a pod. They are about the same points and fill kind of the same purpose in a list - disruption.

It seems to be implied that any unique model is a character.

I've had a lot of luck with the DL so far. Like what rekhal said, the d3 leadship is icing; to be honest I almost always forget about that power and my DL still causes my opponents to make tough choices and pour rediculous amounts of shots into the 2+ cover save.

It's all about a free guaranteed line breaker point!

You can keep him off the field the whole game and pop up last turn to contest an objective. If that objective is in the enemy deployment zone you're talking a 4 point swing for 140 points.

I also like to start my mawlocs on the table and only dive down after DL has shown up. That way I can pop the mawloc up right where I need no scatter. Very situational t any extra tool in the box is handy to have.

Runic weapons and runes of warding are both unaffected by Ld values. DL has no effect on their use and ability to hamstring our psychic potential

I'll be honest, I always found that tactic to be a huge point sink, relative to what it yields.

Sometimes it's really just a matter of basics: You take a well defended (via cover saves) model who can be positioned in such a way to become a hinderance to certain types of enemy units.

Now, obviously, if there is a land raider sitting on the back field he's not going to be much help.
And he 'aint exactly a huge threat to a harlequin squad or bloodletters.

Thing is, he can be focused to force a reaction to long range, non combat units like Rocket Squads and Whirlwinds. Even if your enemy clusters out of cover and in one massive area, he still brings about a conundrum for certain units.

They ignore him, and next turn he assaults. They engage him, and thats a round of long range fire not pointed at important beasties.

See, I always preach against the "distraction" strategy, because when you're running a up the field, a squad a genestealer aren't going to 'distact' fire from your Hive Tyrant. The enemy's mid range will shoot the stealers, and their long range will blow away the Tyrant.

Only, in the case of the DL, you aren't moving up the board, you're already behind enemy lines; so the type of units that are designed to deal with threats like death leaper ('Quins, Tac squads, Fire warriors, Nec Warriors, and even Gaunts) are to far forward field to counteract the DL.
