Snap shots and flying monstrous creatures

Okay so FMC's have many new rules, one of which is the hard to hit rule, which states that any model targeting the FMC unless its got a specialist weapon, or it has the skyfire special rule must use snap shots against the FMC. pretty straight forward. But never anywhere in the rule book does snap shots refer to any other weapon except heavy weapons.

So doe's this mean only heavy weapons can fire snap shots and if so that means only heavy weapons can target FMC's in swooping mode. Which is crazilly overpowerd. Or can any type of weapon use snap shots?

FMC: Shots resolved are resolved as snap shots

Snap Shots: Under certain circumstances shots will be required to be resolved as snap shots. Snap shots are fired at BS1

The reference to heavy weapons is "as an example" and references moving and shooting heavy weapons. No question, all weapons can snap shot at FMC.

BTW Hard to Hit is nerf under current wording due to the grounding rule. Large squad rapid fires at FMC and scores probably 2 hits. Likely this will ground the FMC. After that, everyone else shoots at it on the ground. I really hope they errata the word hit to wound since that seems to be more realistic and what was intended.

To nerf something, it must have existed in a previous version. I assume you mean the MC version of 'Hard to Hit' is worse than the vehicle version, in which you're right.

If you want to rules lawyer Grounded, you can note that it doesn't say that it's not 'Hard to Hit' anymore...

Yeah I know because it say's to hit its really bad. That's why I was looking for some kind of glimmer of hope in the heavy weapons only, but tbh I think I knew deep down it was just wishful thinking.

Wow, I did't catch that it was to hit. I thought it was to wound and then you could use jink. I'll have to go back and re-read that section. Also I thought it only applies to when swooping.

Flyrant is quite nice now.

Yes you can shoot at him with 10 Bolters at BS 1, do a Hit, hope for him to fail the 3+ test and Suffer a S 9 no armour hit.
But if you pass that 3+ test or if the firing Squad just doesnt roll the 6 to hit he just keeps flying. You have to compare that to a Flyrant before. 2 Squads of Longfangs shoot at you he has a bit of luck 8 hit and all wound, you fail 4 cover saves and youre dead.

Now its 2 squads of Longfangs don't dare to shoot at your Tyrant as long as hes not on the Ground. If he dares to shoot you with BS 1 you still can claim your 4+ cover save in exchange for BS 1 on your Tyrant next turn.
You dont roll a dice on 3+ per hit you suffer to check if you are going to ground. You are just taking a single Test per unit that hit you, if they did 1 or 10 hits doesn't matter.

And most important of all. You can fly off the board every turn + do sweeping attacks if your Tyrant is close to death. If someone wants to kill him to stop him from doing that he needs to go in overwatch, again just hits on 6 and you still have 4+ cover.


Imagine doing that with 3 Harpys and 2 Flyrants which will all inflict D3+1 Hits automatic hits AP 2 each turn, being nearly immune to a lot of shooting until you fail your 3+ tests

Muhahahaha! This tactic will. A lot of fun, until my meta changes to a lot of anti-air shooting.

a lot of anti air shooting won't help, as your flying stuff can kill it with ease.

Remember you have 50% chance for nightfight in turn 1 and are either untargetable cause 36'' away or already in the air and having 2+ cover that way.

Besides that anti air is usually S 7 AP 4 and just your Harpys don't really care about that as you need to take 4 wounds. The plane stuff has 2 or 3 Hull points and can be taken out by a single penetrating hit or glanced to death with a couple lucky Heavy Bolter hits, Tyranids can't.
