So today... Or yesterday for me, my store received the new rulebook. Its already on the shelf in the store and though it is not for sale yet, people are free to take a look at it. Now I didn't have much time really and I only skipped through those rules that I really wanted to know.
The first thing that I wanted to know about, were how Monstrous creatures would do against vehicles in CC.
so here's a couple of facts that I can give.
Rage no longer have any downside. You no longer have to move towards the closest enemy and the model/unit that has the Rage USR will get 2 extra attacks on the charge instead of 1.
Now this is obviously pretty good for us. I mean, now we don't really have to worry about having our feed behavior... Actually, feed* Synapse will actually make most of those units worse.
Anyway, Monstrous creatures will have this smash Abillity (My memory is terrible, so I can't remember the full name of it) As many of you have already heard, this means that the Monstrous creature will lose Half of its attacks but it will double its strength. As a bonus, any attacks that have hit the vehicle but failed to make a penetrating or glancing hit (which is on a 3+ on a moving vehicle (I think... Will check again tomorrow after my last exam)), will get re-rolls to the armour penetration roll.
Most Vehicles will have 3 structure points (I think they have a different name, but that doesn't matter) Glancing hits will remove a structure point and so will Penetrating hits. Penetrating hits will allow you to roll on the damage table though.
Now, all monstrous creature attacks will count as AP2.
AP 1 gives you +2 to roll on the damage table.
AP 2 gives you +1 to roll on the damage table.
Monstrous creatures will only roll 1D6 + S to armour penetration though.
(The Damage table should be like this: (1-2): Shaken (3): crew stunned. (4): Weapon Destroyed. (5): immobilized. (6): Destroyed.
So here's an example.
We have a Trygon that charges a moving Vehicle.
It hits on a 3+ (With re-rolls due to double ScyTals), with 4, S10 attacks and re-rolls to armour penetrate/glance. And last but not least, +1 to the damage table roll.
Or lets say that we have given the Trygon Adrenal glands (and that it is in rage). Then we'll have 8, S7 attacks with re-roll to hit and armour penetration.
Also, only 25% of a model have to be covered in order for it to count as obscured.
And our harpy now count as the infantry type: Flying monstrous creature, which includes a bunch of rules that for sure will make it so much more survivable.
So unless we'll have an über nerf with the coming FAQ, 6th edition will be a happy change for us Tyranid players.
Edit*
I meant Synapse, not feed. xD
