Rules Question - Flyrant HC w/ Deepstrike

OK, please don't flame if this is obvious... No one answered this in my army list thread, so I am asking here. If my Hive Tyrant with wings has Hive Commander, and I decide to deepstrike the Hive Tyrant, does the Hive Commander bonus work when he is in reserve? Does it work for his rolls to come in as well as for other reserve unit rolls if he is not on board yet?

works as long as the HT is alive. doesn't matter if he's in play or not.

as far as i understand... the hive tyrant has to be in play to get the hive commander bonus.

Am i right on that? I play with some pretty hardcore dudes that travel for 40k and win tourneys and stuff and they said that i only get the +1 to reserves if he is in play. i am a new player so i am very unsure now that you guys are saying we do. thanks.

It also says that models equipped with wings MOVE like jump infantry. I dosen't say anything about them getting the deep strike special rule. in the rules it says all JUMP INFANTRY units may enter the battlefield by deep strike. but the hive tyrant is not jump infantry it just moves like one.

read the HC rule in your codex. it says while the tyrant is alive, you get the bonus.

In the description for the upgrade "wings" it says that all tyranid units with wings have the "deep strike" special rule.

the wings biomorph heading just says they move like jump infantry, never mentions deep strike. however:

GW tyranid FAQ:

"Q: Can Harpies and Hive Tyrants with the Wings
biomorph deep strike? (p84)
A: Yes."

And besides that.... look in the BRB under Jump Infantry, under Movement. If you move like JI, then that is what rules you use. You will notice it says you can DS under JI Movement.

Pretty straightforward when folks read the actual rules in the actual rulebook, instead of just interpreting them from memory.

ok. thank you. so you can deepstrink and you get hive commander +1 while tyrant in in reserve.that is great news! learned 2 things today. iguess we can count one today and one yesterday. thanks!

Yep. I think both of those are actually addressed in the FAQ but I can't check right now. The FAQs are all on the games workshop website.
