The more regular members may remember that a while ago i bought an old forgeworld trygon from ebay, got it cheaper than a current gw one too im not getting round to restoring it. And inspired by the bio-titan restoration project i saw on here not that long ago, i thought i'd let you know what happens with it.
Unfortunatly the description wasent entirely accurate, i've never seen the words "painted to a high standard" used like this before. Its terrible, its so thick that i didnt realise how detailed this model was until i got the paint off of one of the talons. Apparently there was a good reason for using such a low quality picture.
I knew from the picture that i was going to have to do something to it though, one of the talons had been broken off and then repaired very badly, it was also at a ridiculous angle.
First task as allways with this sort of thing is stripping the paint. I tried to get the talons off before doing this. I managed to break all but one which did come out in one peice, the other five still have their shoulder joints in the body as i cannot get them out (im sure its not pinned, it dosent look like the original owner knew what he was doing, but they did use some damn strong glue). I'll worry about fixing the damage later.
I havent got a picture of it before i started. This is it in what i've been calling the nid gas chamber, stinks of fairy liquid when i open it.
Seeing as i'm in the uk, i can't get simple green, not easily anyway. I used Fairy power spray at the advice of people at my local gw. This stuff is amazing, just spray it on and i didnt have to wait long at all, which is very impressive considering how thick the paint is.
I'd recommend using this to the uk guys, it hasent even harmed that most delicate and precious of materials; forgeworld resin.
The one talon i've cleaned up so far. Paint came straight off, i'm still amazed at how much detail was under there.
Now to clean the rest.
Edit: to jog peoples memory, heres the original topic thetyranidhive.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=35153&page=1 Do Not Necro It!
