Okay so in the last few days I had some time to think about things that aren't very clear in the rulebook and things that could be improved. Since 6th Edition is going to come eventually, I just thought I'd share my wishes with you =)
1) I think models/units should be classified as (for example) "psyker" or "daemon", additionally to the "infantry"-tag. Similar to the subcategories of vehicles.
2) TLoS is a nice concept, but with it comes the issue of model size. I think every model (including vehicles and buildings) should have a size-tag amongst their characteristics. Either a number, or a word ("light, medium, heavy, superheavy" - light would be a termagant or a guardsman, medium Space Marines, Tyr. Warriors, Terminators etc, heavy would be dreadnought or a carnifex and superheavy things like land raiders and Tervigons). Something "light" will never block LoS to something heavy (BUT it will give a cover save). Cover saves depend on what is blocking what - i.e. something light in front of medium will give a 4+, something light in front of superheavy 6(+), something heavy in front of something superheavy 4+ etc.
3) Saves: I think you shouldn't have to choose between saves. Your armor won't stop working if you are behind a bush and that bullet your psychic shield couldn't stop might still glance off your armor. So by reducing the saving rolls (i.e. no more 2+ except in VERY special cases) and increasing shots of weapons, you can very well take saves behind each other. So 1: Cover save, 2:invuln. save, 3: Armor save, 4: Feel no pain. All of this of course only if applicable.
4) Vehicles & their upgrades: I think vehicle entries in codices should be different. They should give you the basic vehicle frame and then things you can add on to it. Of course some of them will have limitations and change characteristics of the vehicle, rather than just it's weapon. Example: Rhino Chassis. 10 seats, 2 firing points - can be used as a dedicated transport. Upgrade A: Lascannon-turret, taking 4 seats and the firing points - can be used as a dedicated transport. Upgrade B: Vindicator-Cannon and increased front armor (AV13), taking all seats and firing points - can only be used as heavy support. You get the idea.
Why like this? Well what if I want a Rhino with Lascannon Sponsons but no Turret?
5) Units & their upgrades: I like the GK codex. Mainly because of the variety of stuff I can give my troops. Why not do it similarly for other codices as well? yes - suddenly marines get hell of a lot more expensive and competitive players will probably stick to the chainsword/boltgun-layout. But I just can't see myself fielding 3 units that only have chainswords and boltguns, while I CAN see myself field 1 unit with 2 chainswords per model, one unit with stormbolters etc.
6) Skimmers: The Eldar Wave Serpent or whatever it is called. The Land Speeder. The DE Raider. Excellent examples of what you would think of when talking about "skimmers". The Necron Monolith...meh...but still okay.
But if we start thinking about Storm Ravens, Vendettas and DE Bombers...those aren't skimmers. Those are proper airplanes. And in my opinion they need special rules. As far as I know airplanes have special rules in apocalypse, something like that would be nice. But not TOO different from normal vehicles - that's probably the key point.
7) Weapon types: After the GK FAQ it seems like we will need further weapon classification. Plasma Weapons for example should have a "plasma" at the back. Laser weapons "Laser". Other types could be "projectile", "flamer" and "psychic". You get the idea. And no - this is NOT the same as the "gets hot!", "template" and "blast" categorization. This merely states what KIND of weapon it is. There still might be a plasma weapon that does not get hot.
That's about it.
