So as some of you may know May 4th is a pretty big day for Star Wars fans (May the forth be with you and all that). But this May 4th was going to be huge because everyone was expecting big news. You can see here:
www.starwars.com/
As you can guess the build up was pretty phenomenal.
So today I go check and what do I get? I'm redirected to 20th Century Fox's upcoming release page. WTF!? Here I am, expecting news on something like Star Wars Blu-ray release, and I get a page for the (please do not swear) new X-Men movie. They go out of their way to build this up (even creating a countdown page) only to have a site redirect error? Way to go George.
But that's why George hates Star Wars.
See, after several attempts I get the site. I wait a bit for the site to load and think that this will be huge given the time it takes to load. Wrong! It finishes and I here the iconic Star Wars intro, four notes of it. After all that I got four bars, a picture with yoda in it, and a message that if I want to see more I need to share this site with others.
Seriously? Who treats their fans like this? I'm waiting days for this and you decided to make me work for this? No notice, no warining, just a "by they way, if you want to see this you need to do some recruiting".
If this was anything but Star Wars I might understand. But what has a larger fan base on the internet than Star Wars? Do they think that fans don't know about this? Especially after a pretty decent marking campaign? Or do they think that spamming the general population will help them sell DVDs? Maybe they think that spamming their fan base is a good idea?
Anyway, I haven't given the website because I don't like being treated like that. Star Wars fans know of the site and you can find your way there from starwars.com if you want to. No matter what happens the news will be released in a few days. It isn't worth becoming a bot just to see it any sooner.
