Student Dining 101

Starving.
Nothing quick and good to make.
No bread = no toast.
Looked at everything I had in the fridge:
Bacon (5), Mushrooms (6), Cheese, Butter, Tinned Sweetcorn, Milk.

Need to make food.

Cupboard:
Pasta, Flour, Pepper, Salt, Noodles, Porridge, Chicken Stock Cube.

IMAGINATION OVERDRIVE.

White sauce: Butter in pan. Melt. Add flour. Stir. Add milk. Thin out. Add chicken stock cube (for chicken-y taste, yo). Add salt. Add pepper. SAVE.

Pasta: COOK THE (please do not swear) OUT SOME PASTA.

Fry: Fry bacon and mushrooms together so they absorb each other's taste. Put to one side.

Cheese: GRATE SOME (please do not swear) CHEESE.

Pasta done. Drain water. Add bacon, mushrooms, sweetcorn, and white sauce. Mix together. MIX THAT (please do not swear) UP. Put into oval bowel dish thing.
Add the grated cheese on top of the dish. Put in an oven at 200 degrees for 5-10 minutes. Take out. EAT (please do not swear).

Conclusion: Epic. Bacony goodness with awesome tasting pasta with cheese and mushrooms in a white sauce that tastes of chicken with sweetcorn. And I made enough for dinner too.

Student cooking?

Pasta + bacon + sauce tends to lead to success regardless of other factors. Include veg and other meats if you have them lying around.

ALWAYS make sure you have bread in though. Can do anything with bread.

Agreed about bread. Though, unfortunately I came home plastered the other night and must have eaten it in my state of intoxication. damn my ravaging drunken hunger.
Veg was sweetcorn, literally all I had. Everything listed above was literally everything in my flat.
Man, I should go a shop.

Probably. In my first year I was too damn lazy to go shopping half the time. Lost a LOT of weight since I ran out of snacks pretty quick...

I'm keeping my weight steady (I'm light as Hell anyway) with a combination of pasta, rice, and cider. Lots and lots of cider.

Get Ramen (you know-that asian noodle soup). Buy ~25 in different tastes. Get eggs.
Make 1-2 (depending on packaging size) of the same flavour. Put Ramen in a pan, put eggs onto it, wait until its hard enough to turn, turn it, leave a bit more until its brown on both sides et voila - good meal for less than 50cents XD lots of variety, carbohydrates and protein. you couldn't ask for more.

Elaques 10 minute curry

One yellow onion
One container of creme fraiche
One chicken Bouillon cube
Curry powder
Potato starch
Milk
Butter
Rice nodels
One apple

Boil the nodels, nodels are =][= cheap.
Make sure the nodels are =][= al dente or you have failed like a =][=.
Melt the butter in a pot and fry the =][= onion and the curry powder like a boss.
Add the creme fraiche, thats some good =][=.
Add lots of milk, milk is cheap as =][=.
Add the entire bullion with fists of fury.
Add starch to make that =][= look eddible.
Heat untill it looks like a =][= curry.
Remove from the heat.
Dice apple and mix with the sauce.
Enjoy that =][=!

This is how I made it through collage. Though I used actual meat. Chicken in my chicken/oriental and spicy sausage in my beef/pork/spicy ramen. Yeah, it's more expensive than an egg, but chicken and sausage are still pretty cheap.

I got most of my meals as hot dogs cut up and added to ramen, cheese rice, or boxmac. Every now and then, I'd make a big lot of curry and live off that for a week or so, though.

Wait 'til stuff goes on good sale, and then buy in bulk. Cheese and processed meats keep pretty well.

1 Large Pie Crust (Top and Bottom) or 4 small pie crust
Veg-All (It comes in a can with carrots, potatoes, peas, beans, onions, and the like)
4 cans of Campbell Cream of Potato Soup
1lb of beef stew meat (ground beef works too)
4 packets of instant brown gravy

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Cook beef stew meat till brown
Add 4 cups of cold water to Gravy and mix thoroughly; Add to meat
Add Cream of Potato to meat and gravy mix
Drain and add Veg-All to mix

Put the entire mix into the Pie crust
Top with other pie crust
Poke several sets of small holes to allow steam to vent

If you made four small pot pies put in oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown (Could freeze for later allowing for a quick heat and eat meal.)

Large Pie goes in for 35 minutes or until golden brown.

Allow to cool and enjoy!

Strongbow in my Union is £1, so I normally have that. Though, it is the drink that ends my night. When I want to get into a state that involves me waking up with a third traffic cone in my room.. I drink Strongbow.

Good times.

What's the suggestion with Ramen? Never heard of it actually..
