DOW 3!?

The third full instalment of Relic's Warhammer 40,000 real-time strategy series Dawn of War should apparently be broadly expected 18-24 months after the launch of DoW 2's second standalone expansion Retribution in February 2011. The revelation came from publisher THQ's core games VP Danny Bilson in an interview with Eurogamer.

"Retribution's going to ship in February, and then we start laying out Dawn of War III," Bilson said. "You can probably expect it between 18 months and two years after that."

"It may be a more digital free-to-play experience with all the depth and quality of a Relic RTS," he revealed, similar to Relic's Company of Heroes Online. Currently in beta and launching this fall, CoH Online is free to play but supported by microtransactions.

"It all depends on how COHO does, and how it works and how people respond to it," Bilson said. "If they do that would definitely drive us to... Now Dawn of War III, either way, is going to have a much larger strategic component to it, more of a global battle going on with little tactical things, sort of MMO-like."

Of course, all this may change as it's clearly early days for DoW 3. Bilson himself offers the disclaimer that "We haven't announced anything about it, and it's still in its early formative stage, but I'm just talking to you about the brainstorming going on around it."

Why can't they just stick with a game and give it all the races (or most of) by Dark crusade DoW:1 they had it done right. Can't they just make their minds up D':

Yeah I was so off it when they did sisters but not nids in Soulstorm...

Sisters were just marines with boobs and flamers. It should have been so much better

Wait is THAT what they're doing with that 40k MMO that's been in the makes for a few years now? So they're taking DoW3 and that MMO they announced at like E3 I believe and just mashing them together?

I can't say how I'd feel about the idea of an mmorts. On the one hand it would force those like me to pit their forces against something else aside from the cheeky campaign and easy computer fights, but on the other hand I could see it being somewhat successful if it is like a virtual version of table-top 40k. Perhaps an MMOTBS would do better?

I know there is a third person shooter coming out called space marine like a remake of fire warrior

There is a space marine game coming out in October (coop action/RPG), looks flipping awesome.
The latest game dev that came out is pretty sweet:

There is also Dark Millenium, also looks awesome but waiting for more details (which should hopefully be at the next E3).

DOW3...sounds awesome. I was a huge DOW2 gamer. Was top 10 in 3v3 matches when it first came out, but it was taking too much of my time. I really hope they keep and expand on the RPG aspect of it. I loved leveling up my Force Commander/Hive Tyrant and trying out new wargear. The Co-op was a lot of fun.

If they add some sort of Last Stand + RPG element (maybe a better wave system/bigger levels with different objectives). Even a DoTa style battle I think would be a great idea and represent 40K well.
