Scariest Sleep Paralysis.

For those who don't know, sleep paralysis is a strange state of light sleep where you seem awake but unable to move, like you're brain's a sleep but your body isn't. You see everything around you but dreams are lie imposed in this environment. Anything you think seems to be real.

Last night I had this experience. Scariest one I've had so far. If you're familiar of the 'slander man' meme than this will make sense. A tall, skinny, disproportional man walked into my room and (remember that you feel as you can't move) started performing open heart surgery on me. Than I woke up again (If your familiar with sleep paralysis than this would make sense to you)

If you have sleep paralysis on a semi regular basis, or at all, what has been you scariest sleep paralysis moment?

D****. Ive never heard of it before but it does indeed sound possible.

Also, after watching marble hornets a few months ago I woke up in the middle of the night.

I had left my suit hanging on the wardrobe door since I last used it.

I have one of those hangers were the pants end up hanging below the suit itself making it look like a man.

Sure dude. I know what you mean, though technically I see it that everyone gets sleep paralysis every time you sleep (once the brain goes a certain depth, direct motor control is lost; that's why you can't sleep standing up, you'd fall over) and those near waking experiences like you mention fall into either hypnagogic or hypnopompic categories.

Had one this morning. In nearly all my dreams, I'm aware that I'm dreaming. This means that mostly, unless I'm feeling dark, my dreams are awesome. This morning was no exception. Tragedy is, just when it was getting really good, the damn doorbell went off. Electricity reading. Felt like punching the dude...

I've found that sleep paralysis has some benefits too. It can trigger the region of your brain that reacts to fear - I found that's why it seems so scary but seeing i have it rather often, no sparser than a weekly basis, I can get over that and in some way control what i'm dreaming about by thinking about something in that state and drifting off.

I have been suffering from sleep paralysis throughout my entire life. Luckily I now take pills to knock me dead, so I avoid waking up every five minute with some twisted dream.

A few summers ago, I slept in a friend of mine's "outhouse". Basically this outhouse was primaryli made up by windows, kind of like those you keep vegetables and plants in. While sleeping there I "woke up" to find some dark character with a pale face constantly walking around the window-house. Every few minutes he would stop walking and just stare right into me with this horrible "Trollface-meats-Halloween" face. And I just kept on walking around, like he was searching for the entrance of the house. Fawking scary as hell.

Every time I see/hear the word paralysis, my muscles start tightening up... stupid sympathy pains...

I have experienced this several times but its always the same dream. I am laying in my room, I wake up laying in the middle of nowhere. A man is chanting and I feel myself being ripped apart and right before its over I wake up.

On a more serious note, how does sleep paralysis relate to lucid dreaming.

I have experienced the later but not the former. Just asking since Paalam seems to have the later as a direct cause of the former...

Ok, the trick with sleep paralysis is to remember what it is and that you're not in any danger. You can actually quell the terror you feel. Know how what ever you think seems to come true? think of what you want to dream of and try to fall back to sleep, don't struggle and you get back to sleep pretty quickly. You'll probably end up dreaming what ever you were thinking.

Slenderman is the best horror character ever. He's paranoia incarnate. Designed to look like every shadow, completely unknown means of attack, etc. He's just pure fear!

When I have nightmares I've developed this belief that if I scream loud enough I wake up. Sadly my body is still in sleep lockdown so I wake up making this really dumb sounding murmury whine...
