Here is the second story I have created for my space marine chapter. Please vote on which one you think is better after reading both and feel free to comment on both I will include a link at the end that leads to first thread.
Biomarines story:
Before the Horus Heresy there were 20 Space Marine Legions. Near the start of the Horus Heresy two of the these legions (Legion II and Legion XI) were lost and it was forbidden to talk about the Primarchs of these Legions among the remaining 18 Legions. As the Horus Heresy began and ended and the Imperium began to rebuild the two Legions seemed to be lost for eternity.
When these Legions were cast out by the Emperor, the Emperor sent orders to investigate certain space anomalies so as not seem like he purposely killed the Legions. The Emperor secretly knew that he was sending these Legions to their death, but the reason why he did this is unknown. The location sent to Legion XI is not known but the location sent to Legion II was the Maelstorm which they soon realized made a warp jump to the Andromeda galaxy. As soon Legion II traveled through the Maelstorm they ended up in the Andromeda galaxy and saw something that, if they could send a message to the Imperium, could save countless millions of lives. What the Legion encountered in the Andromeda galaxy was the staging area of the tyranid Hive Fleet Behemoth. The Legion's ships quickly came under attack from the tyranid ships. The Legion's Fortress Monastery had taken heavy fire within the first few moments of battle, and under the commands of the Primarch it, along with 2 other ships crash landed on a nearby planet that would, if in Imperium space, be classified as a Death World. The tyranid ships seemed to take little notice of this however, and focussed on destroying the remaining space marine ships. After this was completed (thus destroying around 70% of Legion II) the tyranids oddly only sent a small number of troops to investigate the crashed ships. Through sheer luck, nearly all of the space marines aboard the crashed ship survived, however the same could not be said for the personnel not clad in power armor. Recollecting his senses fairly quickly the Primarch prepared his troops for he knew the xenos would send troops down to take care of the rest of the Legion. The thanked however had not expected so many space marines to have survived the crash (earliest troop logs made by the Legion count around 245 space marines to have survived the crash) and were therefore ill-prepared to fight off any major resistance. With only a Carnifex, a Hive Tyrant, one squad of genestealers, and one squad of gaunts the tyranid investigative force was quickly defeated. The Primarch had a few a few of the gaunts and genestealers kept alive though so that his Apothecarium could study this new type of xenos.
The Legion II had no means of space travel at the current time and had therefore make a base out of the crashed ships. The Primarch had his all of his Adeptus Mechanicus start on repairing and restructuring the Fortress Monastery into a full base. The reconstruction of the base was underway he had his Apothecarium begin to study the tyranids they had captured along with identifying a strange illness some of his space marines had encountered. Any other marine was ordered to secure a perimeter around the base or was sent on scouting missions to find out more about the planet they were on. The scouting squads came back with numerous reports of monstrous creatures injuring or even killing some of their marines. These reports came along with reports of tyranids that had fled the initial fight and were now working and thriving in small packs making hit and run attacks on the base killing at least one marine each time. After about one year the Primarch had lost about 23 marines compared to the 5 tyranids that his space marines had killed.
Things were only going to get worse for the Primarch too. The illness in which the Primarch had ordered the Apothecarium to investigate had since then claimed the lives of nearly 19 marines. The Primarch had also lost around 27 space marines on scouting missions, killed by either tyranids, native species, or what ever atrocities were lurking in the jungles surrounding their base.
Seeing that his Legion was on the verge of annihilation the Primarch ordered half of his Adeptus Mechanicus to construct a warp travel worthy ship so that he may seek help from the Imperium. And as his Legion was descended directly from his gene-seed (which had the capability of changing and adapting when new DNA was introduced) he also ordered his Apothecarium to experiment in introducing into his Legion's gene-seed DNA of native-species so as to give his space marines a higher chance of survival on this world.
Nine months had passed and the Primarch was down to nearly 110 space marine (according to troop logs). The Adeptus Mechanicus was nearing completion of the ship and the Primarch would be ready for warp travel in about one more month. All the DNA the Apothecarium had tried to introduce into the gene-seed however, killed the host. The Primarch was starting to get desperate and so, with the greatest hesitation and regret, he told the Apothecarium to try to introduce DNA from the tyranids they had captive into the gene-seed. The first test came out to be a total success. And as more and more gene-seeds were altered it seemed like the Primarch now had a glimmer of hope of saving his Legion. Still loyal to his creator the Primarch apologized to the Emperor as he ordered the Apothecarium to integrate the DNA with all the marines. As the Adeptus Mechanicus finished the ship the Primarch appointed Tyranus Balkor as Chapter Master. Two months earlier the tyranid ships in space above the Legions planet had all travelled through the warp (this was the Imperiums first encounter with the tyranids i.e. The Battle for Macragge) The Primarch took advantage of the tyranid's absence and gave his sons a fair-well promising them that he would return quickly with help from the Imperium. And just like that he left. No marine from his Legion can remember his name to this day.
The Apothecarium had went on to implant tyranid DNA into all the Legions gene-seeds including it's gene-seed supply, which had survived the crash of the Fortress Monastery. Having renewed faith in their Legion's survival Tyranus Balkor kept everything running as the Primarch had left it. Casualties from scouting missions and tyranid hit and run attacks greatly reduced thanks to the tyranid DNA in all of the space marines DNA. However, as days turn to weeks and weeks turned to years and years into a century the Legion was beginning to fear the worse. They had not heard anything from their Primarch and within a year after implanting the tyranid DNA in their gene-seed the space marines began to change. At first many space marine began to talk differently. Then they began to develop more tyranid like characteristics such as gaining heightened smell, hearing, feel, and eyesight, and acquiring a natural ability to stalk and hunt down anything. The after two years the physical changes began, marines began to grow tyranid weapons or features on their armor. Some incidents recall a space marine just suddenly losing his arm in a bloody mess and from the wound a genestealer claw began to grow rapidly.
The Apothecarium tried to find a way to stop the mutations but found no possible way to deactivate the tyranid DNA in their gene-seed. Despite the odd formalities these mutations caused, the Legion had to, and did, learn to live with them. Tyranus gave orders for the Adeptus Mechanicus to repair one of the crashed ships and make it warp travel worthy. A century after their Primarch had left them the Legion had a ship on which they could carry their chapter, it's relics, and the gene-seeds supply. Thanks to the efforts of the Adeptus Mechanicus, with help from any marines the Legion could spare, the ship was able to make jumps through the warp. As the remaining 97 space marines boarded the ship Tyranus made an official announcement saying that the space marines of Legion II shall henceforth be known as Biomarines. And as they left the wrecked Fortress Monastery, vowing one day to return and bring the Legion to it's full glory.
Tyranus had the Adeptus Mechanicus pilot the ship and had them set course to travel back through the Maelstorm to the Imperium. The ship made the warp jump in the Maelstorm and arrived in the Milky Way galaxy near a space hulk. Seeing an opportunity to gather some information, Tyranus gathered up a boarding squad and went aboard the space hulk. After fixing some lose wiring and tapping into the space hulks computer Tyranus had all the information of what had happened in the Terra galaxy while their Legion was trapped in the Andromeda Galaxy.
Tyranus spent about five hours examining all that had happened then, out of a warp jump near the Biomarines ship, an inquisitorial ship appeared. Immediately after they came out of the warp the Inquisitorial ship contacted the Biomarines ship. Tyranus had the Adeptus Mechanicus intercept and respond to the Inquisitor contacting them. While a Techmarine was communicating with the Inquisitor, Tyranus brought up schematics on the other ship. After some closer examination he discovered that the ship was part of the Ordo Xenos section of the Inquisition. Just as soon as Tyranus realized the danger of this the Inquistor aboard the other ship brought up a video feed of the Biomarine's bridge. Tyranus immediately ordered the Adeptus Mechanicus to make a random warp jump somewhere in the galaxy. Not short after he ordered this did the Inquisitorial ship start firing at them. In a matter of minutes the Adeptus Mechanicus led the ship once more through the warp. The Biomarines before leaving the space hulk set a bug on it's terminal in order to stay informed about Imperium battles, missions, and general news.
After their close encounter with the Ordo Xenos, Tyranus saw it best for his Legion to act much like the Legion of the Damned. From the information he gathered about them Tyranus thought it would provide them with the best way to help the Imperium without them finding out who the Biomarines truly were. However unlike the Legion of the Damned Tyranus has his Legion recruit from Dead Worlds attacked by tyranids and take any survivors and provide them salvation and eventually a spot among the ranks of the Biomarines in order to keep their Legion alive. Their initiation progress is simply being able for the hosts body to accept the Legions gene-seed, for that has proven difficult enough and has killed numerous initiates. To this day the Biomarines number 550-600 space marines on four ships. They have attracted much attention from the Ordo Xenos and have had on one occasion; contact from a Rogue Trader sent to contact them, and a Deathwatch Kill-team.
