Anyone want a "Create your own adventure"?

A few years back, I started a "Choose your own" adventure (you should be able to still go back and read it: It's called "It's All In The Mind" and is currently residing on Page 11)

Back then, I had to rely on one of the mods (Barbed Sparky) to help with the deletion/locking of poll threads.
Now, since I am a Mod, I have that particular magical power.
I also have a vague feeling of wanting to get back in to writing (again).
So... let's combine the two.

Basically, the idea is that I will create one thread dedicated to the story (whereby any posts not by me will be deleted) and every now and then, on a hopefully weekly or bi-weekly basis, I will post a poll at critical decision/splitting points for the story.
The poll questions may directly relate to the story (i.e. "Should your character do action A, Action B or Action C"), or they may be entirely whimsical (i.e. "Find the nearest book to you. If the 12th letter is a vowel, Select Option A. If it is not, Select option B") or they may even relate to your own personal views (i.e. "Choose what you think is better out of Chocolate, Ice Cream and Cake").
Based on the results of the week long poll, I will then post the next piece of story.

With a bit of luck, I can make something interesting of this.

Yeah. Great idea. i love those choose your own path books.

Try and relate it to 40k somehow. A battle or something.

GOT IT!!! A buncha space marines boarding a hive fleet to kill the norn queen

But i wouldnt make each decision a week long. Just a coupla days or itl take forever.

Well... largely, your participation is in helping choose the next action of the story by voting. A whole lot less effort than a full RP

It's not that the decision will take a week or two to unfold, but rather that I have time constraints on actually working on writing (which is part of the reason I don't hang around this section all that much: It's too hard to keep up anymore).
With luck, it will only be a few days between story advancement.

OK, that's the critical number for me.
Story lines will begin at some point in the next 3 weeks (going on a short holiday back home on Wednesday for 3 weeks, may or may not get time to start this up during that period).

If at any point there is equality in the poll votes, I will give it a little longer to play out and, if a deadlock is unresolved, my choice is the final vote.
At any given vote, if you post reasons or opinions on why your particular vote should be the correct one (or the alternatives wrong), that may sway my decision in the event of a deadlock (and may also swing other voters in your direction... and potentially even force a re-write of what I may have prepared if your idea is better than what I had planned) so feel free to comment in the Vote threads.
Most votes will be of 2-3 choices.
So far, the vague story line/plan is 5 or 6 decision trees down the track... so... here's hoping I can keep writing myself good new decision trees

Nope: I am writing the story, you get to choose what happens at critical points in time along the way via a voting thread.

It's just like a "choose your own adventure" book, only you aren't allowed to page cheat by looking up all possible results

As I said before, my decision trees are about 5-6 branches strong...
So the start of the story and the various early branches, as well as probable directions for the long term of the story, have all been thought up and written down in point form and Decision Branch form.
All I need to do is to write up maybe two or three branches in advance of our current story arc (and that's why it has yet to be started).
Actually, come to think about it, the first maybe three decision branches will virtually write themselves once the votes are in. Everything after that will take longer.

The first part of the story and choice will be made within the next 3 weeks (will be on a short holiday soon)... possibly sooner rather than later.

When Fate Calls - The Story Thread
This thread contains the story section of this Adventure. Here, you can read what has happened so far. I ask that you do not post comments in that thread. They will all be oblivionised or, at least, moved.

When Fate Calls - Decision Branch 1
In this thread, and any subsequent threads dedicated to Decision Branches, you vote as to how the story is to proceed. Decisions may be completely story-altering, such as the current decision that will determine just what period of time this is set in, or they may be seemingly trivial (as one or two decisions later on will probably be).
In any case, you place your vote and any comments you wish to make about the vote or story itself. After a time of my choosing, usually several days to a week or two (time constraint dependent), the thread and poll will be locked and the poll answer with the highest number of votes will determine where the story is headed.
