I was about to rebuke you for that.... But, largely, you're right. Most big Irish hits today are reeeeeally bad.

The thing about most Irish music is all the modern mainstream stuff generally sucks. It's either bad rock or old culchies yelling about oppression and the famine and a load of stuff that happened before they were even born.

Irish music hit its rennaissance in the sixties to early nineties. Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher, Gerry Rafferty, even the Cranberries.
But they were all overshadowed by U2 (who are not as popular in Ireland as some might think) and thus U2 wannabes.

Today, you're either big singing U2 rip-offs or big singing about potatoes. Oddly, Jedward are outside this spectrum and so are the Rubberbandits. Maybe an age of tone deaf Irish rap artists is dawning? Fantastic....

Jedward are very irritating. They still get airtime on RTE (Irish television) with reality shows documenting their lives. (OMG its Jedward, Living with Lucy etc etc). Generally among most people they are not viewed kindly, and to be honest I personally find their behaviour embarrasing as an Irish person.

They do seem to be very popular amongst young kids (pre-teen).
