After almost seven years of playing WH40k I have seen and dealt with a lot of annoying things in my gamestore.
I have watched Tau Fire Warriors thrash my Genestealers in CC. I have seen the massed firepower of my Imperial Guard harm absolutely nothing in the first turn. I have seen half my army fall off a table once, when hit by some guys sleeve. I have even seen a 40k hustler betting money on games and then trying to cheat in the most ridiculous ways imaginable.
All of these things have one thing in common. In hindsight, they're hilarious and make for great stories when reflecting back on things.
But if there's one thing that really pisses me off, it's having your stuff, all payed for with hard earned cash and slaved over hours into the morning on late night painting sessions, stolen.
It's happened in the past of course. Sometimes it's not even stealing but rather a simple accident. But recently my gamestore has tipped over the edge with it.
In the last month I've lost my rulebook, my IG codex, five Guardsmen, a Carnifex, all of my templates, some paints and brushes, bucket loads of dice and even newly bought models I hadn't even opened.
Before, the store had such a casual atmosphere you could leave just about anything anywhere and feel safe knowing nothing would happen to it.
Nowadays, I can't even avert my eyes for five minutes without looking back to find out half my stuff has been nicked.
Usually these things can be resolved simply by confronting the culprit. Only now it's half the people in the store that are doing it.
You see, about and a half ago, some teenagers, about 14-16, started hanging around and started up the game. At first I was more than happy to help them out with army lists, share painting tips, hell, I even chipped in a bit so one of them could afford to buy the AoBR set.
But within weeks things started to conveniently "disappear" whenever they hung out. I've caught a few of them in the act (one of them, the guy I helped buy Assault on Black Reach) and told them off. Some of them listened, some stopped showing up. But the rest have just carried on with it.
So far, three people have been barred and two have been warned. That still leaves four others and whatever friends they bring along with them.
Now, I know not all of them are up to it. Some of them are okay guys. But it's ruining an, otherwise, great place to game and a lot of the older hands have stopped showing up. Even I'm reluctant to head out there very often. But, unfortunately, it's the only place to meet up with people who play the game other than close friends.
Any advice with how to deal with the problem. The manager has frequently blown his top and just seems constantly grumpy because of it and most of our outbursts (and, by now, there have been quite a few) have fallen on deaf ears. I even tried reasoning with a few of them (which actually worked.... for about a week).
So, any comments?
