ok, so x factor has dominated all the xmas charts ( apart from last year) but so what?
at least its not the tellytubby song or bob the builder. at least theres music there.
but the ironic thing i find funny about last year, is that one man had an idea, and said.
stop one man from winning the xmas number, we all have a choice, choose to vote for rage against the machine,
so instead of every one wasting there money on the xfactor single, people actully went out and wasted there money on them...so it went from one man ie simon cowell winning it, to the man that wanted ratm to win it...so really it didnt make one diffrence,

the only thing is that people will only buy the xfactor single if they want to. not because they have been told to. so who really cares

I think you're making the same mistake that most people make about the whole idea.

The majority of people who support these things don't do it out of some moral obligation or desire to rectify the balance of power in music.
They do it just to put the mainstream audience on the backfoot for once. Letting them listen to music that they hate played on the radio over and over and over.... Kind of like a taste of their own medicine.

There are some whole do it out of some fabricated "holy crusade" of sorts but, as you pointed out, the very idea is hypocritical.
Take the slogan of a lot of the RATM followers last year:

"(please do not swear) you, I won't buy what you sell me!" followed, ironically, by "Buy RATM's single to get it to No.1 this Christmas!"

But, as stated, most of us just do it for the laugh.
