Honestly, though, I haven't properly listened to metal in years and never really liked Metallica. (Haven't heard Iced Earth.) The only real "metal" I listen to now is NIN.

As for Carnifex? I prefer to actually understand the lyrics I'm listening to. Sorry.

There's not a Death Metal band in that list. It's all 'cores.
I like Black Dahlia, that's about it.

Machine Head, Behemoth, Nile, The Black Dahlia Murder, Pantera, Iced Earth, Sabaton, Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth, Debauchery, Decaptiated, Dethklok, Devildriver, Opeth, Rammstein, The Rotted, System of a Down, Slayer.. etc etc..
Then again, I like Muse, Newton Faulkner, Alter Bridge, Tenacious D, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, JS Bach, Wagner and Daft Punk.

Even with my taste being diverse enough it includes rap/hip-hop which a lot of basement junkies loathe,

I recognize Pantera is hick metal.

Note, I didn't say it was bad, it's just clearly metal made to appeal to rednecks.
I went through a huge deathmetal kick when i was younger. Then I determined even if rap tends to be full of uneducated non-insightful lyricists(depending on who you listen to, the mainstream scene is really short sighted and centered in profit, which is why their sales tend to be higher than metal bands), it's not full of people using nothing but "sick" riffs, powerchords, and music so similar in sound to itself I get bored. Plus I feel like rappers have more fun with their music but that's just me.

Now as for my actual likings in METAL(cause truth be told if you look on my ipod you'll find virtually every genre including such hits as Rap, Hip-hop, Instrumentals, Classical, rock, alternative, indie kid garbage, techno and general rave music, hard rock, Classical-i adore edith piaf, Ska, emo kid garbage, that nature soundtrack absurdity, and I love cross genre mashups):

Pantera, White Zombie, Slipknot, Disturbed, KoRn, Rammstein, Black Sabbath, Metallica, NIN, Kiss, Dukes of the Kumatai, Apocalyptica, Sabaton, Deathklok, Opeth, In flames, Arch Enemy, Cradle of Filth, Kamelot, Hammerfall....the list goes on.
