Money making scheme!

Ok this just got posted up on warseer as a complaint that a guy didnt get exactly what was said he would:

on the apocalypse preview, it says:
* 1 Command Squad
* 2 Cadian Officers
* 120 Cadian Shock Troops
* 36 Cadian Special Weapons
* 18 Cadian Heavy Weapons Squads

but on the store site, it lists:
This package contains enough plastic and metal components to assemble one (1) Command Squad, two (2) random Cadian Officers, one hundred twenty (120) Cadian Shock Troops, twelve (12) Cadian Special Weapons, and eighteen (18) Cadian Heavy Weapon Squads. all models are supplied unpainted and require assembly.

The Fed-Ex guy just left after dropping off my package from gw, I got:
6 cadian boxes of 20
6 heavy weapon boxes
6 blisters of 2 special weapons each
1 hq box
2 officer blisters (*score*)

So be aware, they are either doing some funky math and including the flamers and grenade launchers as special weapons (but then you would be short a few of the 120 normal guardsmen) or they changed it somewhere.

Oh, and it didn't come in a big pretty box either, it was all individual boxes.




Ok, Im not interested in that they got different things in the slightly. Its the last sentence that got my attention.

Now if they aint in a pretty box and all in individual boxes, whats to stop me buying the box and taking back what i dont need to my local GW. Ok I dont have a reciept but GW (in England atleast) will trade in boxes for anything of the same value, like vouchers. So if they get traded in at the original price (and you traded in everything you got in the box) you would actually end up having more money in vouchers than you spent.....

Is this not a bad business idea by GW?

I mean I could then take those vouchers, order a new box set from mailorder from the store, and then spend the other vouchers left over on other things! And the cycle goes on with me never having to spend actual money at GW again.....

They are only online discount deals, so yes they all come in thier own box

And those stores will check the contents of those boxes, and if you turn up with 6 boxes and demand refunds without recipts then the next post you'll make will be from behind bars (or after a hefty fine)

From what i got from the post is that they are bign sent in their normal boxes, like just as you would buy them from GW.

And I wont be behind bars or suffer a fine as its GW's policy and therefor nothing they can do about it if my friend (studying law) is correct... Its not my poilcy, if they want to have a stupid exchange policy that doesnt need proof of purchase thats up to them.

Assuming you can't use the vouchers for buying new army boxes.... they probably don't care all that much. When you buy ArmyBoxA, you are getting $200 worth of models for $150. Sure, you can return them, and then get a different $200 worth of models, but it is about the same for them.

Im sure it is the same to them, but to me it aint.... Lol.... And Like I said I wouldnt get $200 of models, Id order the same $150 army deal and get $50 of models.... And so the cycle continues.

Its like I need to get hold of someone who has bought the Tau Manta... If the tau stuff that comes with it is in boxes and you take them back, suddenly the manta only costs about 650 pounds, not close to 900. Id be much more tempted to buy one at that price!

Can you actually use vouchers from a GW shop with the mailorder?

I don't know it seems a bit off the wall to me. I know where I go they would probably need a proof of purchase of something. If it works, than you just making that product in limited supply for everyone else.

But its an army deal using the normal boxes.... I cant see that they will run out of boxes of guard....

And yes you can use voucers on a mail order if you order it in a GW....

You are forgetting that GW's cost for these things is really low. Do not fall for their propoganda. You are paying 150$ for a boxed set they say at normal retail costs 200$, but the reality is it costs GW probably only 50$ or less to produce all of that stuff. So no matter what they are still making a good proffit off of you, that is their theory. Further, no matter what you are spending the money with them, regardless of cash or voucher, and therefore promoting the hobby. They are willing to suffer a minor loss in proffit over this type of thing because they feel in the long run it will gain them grerater proffit. Now, if you take your boxes in and teade them for things you need in your army, they may be thinking that makes the whole system more interchangeble, which means customer is very happy, and a happy customer comes back and spends more money.
Of course this is GW, the game nazis, so all this "logic" is probably moot.

Lowly, you are missing the loophole.

I give you 150, and you give me 8 boxes.
I give you 8 boxes, and you give me $200 in vouchers
I give you 150 vouchers, and you give me 8 boxes
I give you 8 boxes, and you give me 200 vouchers (now I have 250)
I do this 3 more times...
I have 400 in vouchers, but only gave you $150 dollars....

Ah, now I see it as well, I mis-read it as if you were paying 150$, keeping 100$ of it and trading in roughly 50$ of it for vouchers worth more than the 50$. Sure seems like a strange loophole to me, let me know if it works.
