Given we all have a soft spot for biological space horrors* I'm sure there's no shortage of Zerg loving SC2 fans! Please post anything Zerg related here; fluff. Stories, just general praise. More than anything I'd really like to hear some strategies and tactics discussion as I'm finding Zerg really involved compared to the toss and terrans and wish I was better with my bugs...

Personally I'm finding the Roach unbelievably effective.

Zergling seem so fragile I find them hard to use... Have hardly used banelings as I stray away from zerglings...

Hydralisks are amazing, especially with a Roach wall to guard them.

Mutalisks aren't as powerful as in SC1 but still extremely effective. As are the corrupter/broodlords to support them.

I'll take infestors over any other caster unit; absolutely game changing!

And Queens are an awesome change from the first. Finally getting used to the spawn larva ability...

In general I love how the Zerg play but find it overwhelming the amount of things you need to do to use them... Not so much individual unit's abilities (like Terrans have) but controlling Overlords, spawning larva, building, and moving new units while effectively micromanaging an assault can be overwhelming...

Still I love 'em and am going to be working on improving my game!

*with the exception of non-nid playing posters... But, really, why are you people here!? I appreciate your posts but it's a bloody nid forum!!!

Anyway, I still haven't played SC2 yet but I've seen the fully upgraded Zerglings. I swear, when they move they look almost as the real life cockroaches. It's actually almost disguisting.

The terran stomp me on very hard with their marines, rocket troops, and med vacs. I use roaches and hydras but not sure what to build next. The ultra is weak against troops and the carriers seem to be more for buildings and vehicles as well. Whats the best way to use the mutalisk and infestor (wish it could mind control while burrowed!).

So I played a game earlier against 2 Terran players. With a pal as Zerg. (along with me of course!)
What can I say, the only time I've lost against terran has been when they didn't turtle and got into my base and killed my d00dz.
Medivacs, I hate them.

Funny thing about the game though, I won. Now the way I won was hilarious.
I walked straight into their base with some 14 odd Hydras and 5 Banelings. No attack, I just walked straight in as they didn't pull up their supply depots.
But they had been turtling all game. And the one thing I play easy against is turtles.

I actually haven't used mind control... I usually use the infestors to immobilize or spawn marines on the worker lines/behind the enemy to hit their back field units.

For muta's I find they're great for harassing... The speed on them let's me attack the opponents economy and expansions. If they attempt to bring in flying AA units I have a couple corruptors and if they use ground AA I will run off and attack at their other base cycling so they can never catch up. The only problem is it is hard to pull off while managing everything else (what I meant by the zerg are hard to control everything).

Generally marines will fall to roaches, but the terran grenade launcher guys will make short work of them. Use hydralisks with increased rang behind your roaches to focus fire the medivacs and grenade launchers and you should be fine.

The siege tanks add a whole new problem. Given they can't attack units next to them you could try to move upgraded roaches next to them, spawn marines next to them, or attack the with air. If you're facing a mixed unit then this all gets much more difficult...

Ah the zerg! My favorite Race!

My general start is to play passive and macro up. I generally don't attack much until i get a "base breaker unit". ei, Ultras or broodlords.

I've had some great games terran and protoss!

Is it just me that find banelings fantastic for breaking defence lines?
Siege tanks, bunkers, depo blockades, pylon blocks, etc etc?

Yeah I love Zerg. I'm in Silver league currently though I'm not playing too much, 38 wins out of 64 games too I think. I want that Baneling avatar!

Still learning so much about this game... Never understood why only sometimes creep tumors were targeted: turns out they are cloaked unless building/spawning...

Also found out banelings can be detonated without unburrowing them... I believe the hotkey is 'x'.

So this will mean I'm far more likely to use zerglings and banelings in the future. Should mean I'm less vulnerable to marauder spam...

Anyone know any other tips that might not be obvious?

I don't see the problem with zerglings. I love the little buggers. Last game I played I used about 80 of them backed by some 20 Roaches to tear down a gaggle of Thors backed with marines and Siegers.

Haha, I'm sure it's just me... I have no idea why but I really struggle with the zerg... Can't seem to find my groove and play them well... Just played a couple co-op games with a friend... He always runs terran... If I use Zerg we loose badly; If I run toss we win easily... So sad

Burrow some baneling near a choke, then right click on the burrow command. This activates auto casting. Your baneling will now un-burrow whenever an enemy comes along and promptly explode upon it. Congratulations! You have just brought "spider mines" back into starcraft !

This blew my mind when i first found out! I immediatly tried it and giggled a little when the first ones went off.

Edit: Oh, and if anyone does want to play with/against me, I am undercooked #581
