Hive Fleet Xenomorph [Very Pic Heavy]

Tah Dah!

First pics of my army. Nothing is really finished yet, there's still a lot of touching up to do, but this is the general feel for it.

Special thanks to Paulson Games for the bonesword on my Prime and also to Chapterhouse Studios for the Prime's lashwhip, and also the beautiful Alien heads on the genestealers.

Honestly, I don't like it because to many people try it and the scheme just cant be done. Xenomorphs come off too metallic sometimes and Nids cant be metallic at all.

I happen to sorta like it.. I'd love to see more Alienesque conversions on those models...maybe smoothing out some of the carapaces on the heads.. And maybe throw in some dark purple or something to break up the monotony of some of the models.. overall Not bad.

I find it too...messy. The warrior's lash whip (is that it?) looks stained and not painted. The Carnifex head is nice, but the rest seems too chaotic, doesn't seem like there's an actual scheme to it.

Though, your gargoyles are pretty nice! The back side is very neat and looks great!

Nids can't be metallic at all?! what? If someone wants their nids to have a metallic look then so be it. Don't go off saying something like that as if it's a fact.

Anyways I like the idea, it does look a bit messy but it might also be from the flash of the camera reflecting off the metallic paint making it look messier.

It does look messy, partially because of the flash and mostly cos I'm not a very experienced painter. What I'm hoping is that people look at them on the table from a distance and don't get too close up, cos from a distance they look fine ;D. If you think this looks messy, you should see my Clone Trooper themed Tau army (My god, I do not understand how to use white).

I was just prepping my zoanthropes to have purple brains! So I'll see what else I can do with it. I was getting worried about the monotony.

I did consider the fact that nids wouldn't look right metallic-y. For example, the Tyrant Guard's shield definitely looks a bit much and I'm already deciding on what else I can do with it. Truth be told is I'm just not all that creative, nor good with colours, so rather than picking a a scheme that would clash with itself I went with something I knew that I'd enjoy.

I'd recommend to wash with Badab black your Guard's shield. It will somewhat dim the metallic effect, but at least not look so plain

eh, I'm not a fan of metal colours on nids since I've yet to have seen it done successfully for an entire army theme. You said you'd hope that your army will be seen from a distance but your theme is a very dark scheme so I don't think they will be seeing much other than the metal bits, and highlighting black on nid skin could be difficult to a new painter. However I do like those dots on the garg wings, try to do something similar on the skin or something so people can see the well... skin.

Yeah. It's your scheme so nobody can say that you can't do metal 'nids.

But Ill have to agree with Helonion (Hell Onion? hrm, just noticed that) and bloodtyrant on never having seen it pulled off effectively... I tend to strongly discourage the use of metallics to paint the Tyranids unless you are going for the crazy shiny-bug carapace thing (Though that too, I have never seen one pulled off well enough for me to like).

To your credit, the pics of the gargoyles look fairly decent from the back view (I think it's because the metallics make it look more like a muted gray).

Personally, I'd advise against it. But it is your army, and if you like it that is the primary concern.

I agree with it being kinda monochromatic, you should really try find some way to do something else with the skin so it stands out more. I do have to say the garg wings are done nicely!
