Are Tyranids any good in ranked matches? They suck big time for me. Most people tell me not to play nids because they suck but the stats from the BETA proved otherwise.
I had been doing pretty well in versus and group matches and been playing ONLY NIDS from day one of the BETA, but when I go to try and win any ranked matches I loose, and usually pretty overwhelmingly bad...even to complete noobs. I have tried many things to stop this and several tactics..
1) tried building two more units and waiting by the hive so my intro group can go out all at once with 4 unitds to a VP
2) tried sending the HT group to one VP and new units built to another
3) separating my Tyrant to go to a VP while my hormies go to another as I build more units to reinforce those two groups.
4) Send the HT and each unit separately to VPs, power nodes, and req. which means 4 separate locations to watch but at least everyone runnin around.
But almost always the other side's armies just blow away my gaunts almost on sight despite my having upgraded them with HT synapse. Even only scout marines have an advantage on me. I can't seem to wait around long enough for warriors as my gaunts get blasted off the map. And don't get me started on upgrading the hive...I do try that too but when I waste time with that and capturing enough power nodes and req points the other player takes over the VPs and just wins the game in mere minutes.
So far I don't see any advantage is taking VPs first over power and req first...and all of my opponents thus far seem to only go for VP first and can hold them with just a small group of marines...gaunts simply are uselsss and like I said, if I wait on warriors I just fail instantly.
And I'm not talking a semi-difficult battle pretty evenly matched...I'm totally owned EVERY time and usually in less than 5 minutes...10 if the other player isn't space marines.
What the heck am I doing wrong? Now everyone sees my rank and how bad I suck and don't want to play with me. I was shocked since like I said I was doing well in the majority of unranked matches. Or are the people who play ranked matches just THAT extremely good. Or am I just THAT extremely bad and not ready for Ranked?
