Didnt quite know where to put this, so I put it here ;D
anyways, this is what my brother wrote onto warseer. this is in his posision, so it's him telling the story. I will write coments in brackets, [], when needed.
Ok, so this was a learning experince for me. Not only was I trying out the daemons for the first time, but also the fifth edition. And the reasons for the small forces is because thats what I have currently built.
Daemons (Me) [My brother]
1 Tzeentecht Herald- Breath of Chaos [Took forever to kill]
10 Plaugbearers- Icon [tough]
10 Bloodletters- Fury Of Khorne and instrument of chaos [ez kills]
10 Daemonnetts- arua and instrument of chaos
10 Horrors
Nids (My brother)
1 Hive Tryant- Barb Strangler, that 2+ inv save, enhanced senses [It has +2 armour save, +5 invunerable save from warp field. it also has bonesword and lash wip, enhanced senses, adeneraling glands +1 I]
3 Warriors- 2 deathspitter and 1 venom cannon, 2 with scyything talons and one with rending claws [2 deathspitters one devourer]
2 squads of geansterls (I belive there were 6 in each) [8 each]
2 squads of termagaunts (16 each?) [16 each]
4 ripper swarms [my first time using them]
The mission turned out to be capture and control and deployment was long table edges (whatever the first choice is). I managed to force the first turn on the Nids. The board had two building/ruins and the crashed lander from battle for macragge box set.
1st turn:
The Nids split up into two groups. Hive tyrant and 1 brood of gaunts and stealers took the left flank to charge towards my objective (we set up our objectives in the two opposite corners) while the warriors led the rest of nid force down the right flank. All forces ran. When it came to be my turn, I managed to get the force I wanted and dropped the plaugbearers right in the middle of the right flank nid force. The horrors with the herald dropped behind a building close to my objective. Suprisingly I managed hits on the scatter dice (especially when it comes to my luck) and so both squads make it out alright. The horrors open up fire on the gaunts charging at their direction (the horrors were right behind a corner so some of them could shoot) and managed to kill four. [The funny thing is, the plaugebearers landed in the middle of gaunts, rippers, and warriors, and the rippers/ warriors all charged. also, the horrors killed the only four units that died on my side.]
2nd Turn:
On the left flank the Nids moved closer and opened upon the horrors, but thier weapons failed to kill anything. On the right, the shooting failed to cause any damage due to the toughness of the plaugbearers. Assualt saw that the plaugbearers were charged by the warrior brood and ripper swarms. This was just what I planned as it did not allow for the gaunts behind to move (due to how a building and table edge) and made the geanstealers in the area go through difficult ground next turn. The plaugbearers suffered no wounds and managed to wound a warrior. But since all the units were fearless no one had to fall back. [forgot a rule here... anyways I think I killed a bearer.]
At this point, things looked to be going along nicely. My plan to stall the right flank making them innefective for most of the game seemed to be going just as planned while the hoorors seemed to be holding thier own. But it all started to fall apart when I rolled for reserves. Both squads managed to get to the battle, on turn two. I wanted to spring them out later in the game to capture a objective and to open up some room later on. But my hand was forced. The bloodletters dropped on target right behind the gaunts on the right flank while my deamonnettes dropped behind some cover on the right near to my board edge. Shooting saw that while horrors can unleash torrents of firepower on targets, it dose not mean that it will do much to a hive tyrant. Assualt saw a plaugebearer go down after wounding a ripper swarm.[The funny thing is, I was worried. I was hoping the new units would come later so I could deal with the units at hand.]
3rd turn: Nids on the left flank shoot two horrors back into the warp. Shortly after the tryant charged and started to attack my herald. But for all of its size and strength it only managed to wound him once. On the right the geanstealers tried to rush for the daemonnettes but were out of range. The plaugbearers started to die slowly but once again wounded a warrior. The bloodletters were wiped out by a combined attack by the bored gaunts on the right flank and the stealers who doubled back on the left. (Now that was a crushing blow, a unit that deepstruck and didnt even manage to do much else but to die.....)
[the bloodletters were in a bad spot.]
4th turn:
Gaunts on the left charged into the horros locked into combat by the tyrant to lend in some support. The tyrant killed a a couple of horros while the gaunts managed to kill what was left leaving the herald alone to face a tyrant and a horde of gaunts by itself. While on the right, the plaugbearers started to die in larger numbers leaving only 3. But these three managed to wound the warriors once again. And while all this brutal combat was going on, the daemonnettes played a game of catch me if you can with the geanstealers as the raun towards the objective in my deployment zone.
[evil things. I almost had them. one inch away. anyways, my gaunts open fired on the bloodletters and all my warriors had one would on it. It looked like I was winning.
5th turn:
The plaugbearers fell to the combined might to the warriors and rippers. The herald was stomped on by the tyrant as he forgot he was even there. The daemonnettes ran right up to the objective making it the only one held by any forces at the time. I hoped that the 5th turn would be the last. Unfourtantly that didnt happen. Facing a multiple charges by the tyrant, gaunts and the stealers who were getting frustrated, they were not going to last long. I admitted defeat on the spot as I could not even hope for a draw since my oppenet had seen that he had nothing claiming his objective and was planning to move his gaunts in to claim it.
[He forgot to tell me there could be only 5 turns. if I knew that, I would have moved my gaunts to take my base. but still, I killed everything but the deamonetts.]
The end result:
It was a massacre. My entire daemon army felled in 5 turns. What made it worse was that I only managed to kill 4 gaunts. Thats it. Those were the only nid casualties during the entire game. But I still had fun, and now I have a better understanding how my new force works. [Its true. normally I have this mound of gaunts that makes my brother happy when playing chaos rines, but this time I had the grin.]
What I learned:
Plaugbearers are great. Sure, they cant move fast, or actually kill hard units like warriors (though always wounding on a 4+ is helpful) they sure can take alot of punishment. I plan to play them aggresively again, creating bottlenecks that can stall troops. Another thing is that the tyrant is one tough alien. And finally is that I just asked for my troops to be killed. I put them out one by one expecting that they could hold thier own all by themselves against superior numbers like my chaos marines could. This led to isolated elements being isolated and destroyed easily. If anything, I should of focused on one flank, leaving the tyrant and his underlings nothing to fight.
[The thing I learned about deamons is you cant do the "wave" plan, where to charge towards your enemy, for I didnt know where my enemy was.]
C&C welcomed. As you can see, Nids still win in the end.
