1000-pt IG Lists

[T Spear_Chucker]

These are my first two attempts at a 1000-pt IG list. Though they both involve using the cameleoline equipment and a leman russ, one involves more regular guardsmen and the other more stormtroopers.

Technically, you've taken only two doctrines; stormtrooper grenadiers count for one, according to the FAQ. Like I said in the other thread. There's no point to taking less doctrines, so, might as well pick up a few more....I'll have to look at the rest of the list later, I'm out of time..

Hmm... didn't know that. Well, all of the other doctrine choices cost additional points to use. That's why I'm not maxing out on them.

Well, you can use the doctrines to pick up other unit types, such as heavy weapon platoons, psykers, special weapons teams (!!!), ogryn and such. That way, if you ever feel like throwing something extra in there, you've got it!

And honestly, if you're gunning for 1000 points, you should really drop the HK missiles for fairness. + or - 3 points isn't so bad...+ or - 5 is getting a bit over...and + 15 is just getting to be too much.

I'll post my average IG list sooner or later, though that one's a 2k list. My command platoon alone is worth over 700 points! (Yay, Sentinels and Heavy Weapons!)

In the one with regular Platoons, Close Order Drill could be pretty useful. It does become even more dangerous in 5th Ed, but the Init boost is nice.

The Master Vox does nothing unless you've also got Vox Casters in your Squads. I find that Voxes are generally a waste of Points and that if my Command Radius isn't covering everything, it's usually because most or all of my Officers are dead.

Your Command Sections can pump out an astounding amount of firepower if you kit them out with some Special Weapons. The Command Section for my Drop Troop Platoon has 3 Meltaguns, a Flamer, and a Plasma Pistol on the Lt. Quite a nasty surprise for anything they come down anywhere near.

I usually use vox casters, partially because my master-vox and commander are running around chasing orks or something, meanwhile my troops are just taking pot shots somewhere else...the other part of the reason is because of my own personal unit-fluff. Expensive fluff, but its my fluff!

Command squads for your platoons can be amazing...my own platoon leader runs around with a chainsword and bolt pistol (don't feel like converting, besides, he's not special!), being followed by vox-dude with his lasgun, and then a pair of flamers and a grenade launcher. Many an ork has been crispified by that squad jumping out of nowheres and yelling surprise with their napalm!

Do people typically get voxes or do they just keep their commanding officer like a synapse creature? Do some people just let the squads rely on their own leadership values?

Me, I generally rely on the vox casters....most people keep their officers close. Like I said, I've got this bad habit of sending the command squads off to the side as a sort of 'reaction' element that does things like rout orks or set things on fire.

But yeah. Most people simply keep their officers close to their squads.

Especially now that the new FAQ says that no Ld boosts of any kind travel down the Vox, it's always just the Officer's basic Ld. Whereas if they're in Command Radius, I can get the boost from the Commissar, the Re-roll from the Standard, and the under 50% rallying from Iron Discipline.

And remember, like I said, you've got to buy a Vox Caster for every Infantry Squad that you want to be able to benefit from the Master Vox.

Ok, so getting a vox-caster in a command squad allows one unit out of the entire army to use officer's LD while a master vox-caster in command squad (with adjacent vox-casters for different units) allows the entire army to use the officer's LD?

Also, does the command radius only apply to the command platoon or does it apply to all other minor command squads as well?

Also also, do you have to be in close-order drill formation BEFORE the enemy contacts you in order for it to work or can you do it in the pile-in and get the benefits in the next turn of combat?

Also also also, do the heavy weapon bases count as artillery? Because I was reading through 4th ed the other day and came across the artillery section saying something about which models shots hit and how the gun itself as AV10 all around.

A Vox Caster in a Command Squad allows one Unit that also has a Vox Caster per Turn to use the Officer's Leadership. A Master Vox allows any number of Units that also have Vox Casters per Turn to use the Officer's Leadership.

Command Radius applies to Platoon Command Sections as well.

You get the benefit from Close Order Drill any time your whole Squad is in Base to Base Contact with each other, so watch your Casualty Removal as well, since it can pull you out of Close Order.

IG Heavy Weapons are treated pretty much the same as any other Heavy Weapon. The gun doesn't have an Armour Value and can't be hit separately like in an Artillery Unit.

Ok, thx. That cleared up a lot of my confusion.

But just curious though, what in 40K DOES count as an artillery unit?

Ork Big Gunz and Eldar Support Weapons are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. There are a couple of things in some of the Forge World Books that might be, and one of the new models from the SM Dex looks like it might use the Artillery Rules, but at the moment, I think that's it.
