OK, I've been meaning to get this up for a couple of days now, but have been delayed by a combination of business, laziness, and computer issues. Anyhow, on Monday, my friend Keith and I threw down with two armies maxed out on Chaos Terminators.
I had approximately:
2x5 CSM, Icons of Chaos Glory
3x10 Chaos Terminators. All with Icons of Slaanesh, 2 Combi-Meltas and some Lightning Claws. One had two Reapers, one had two Heavy Flamers, and the last had one of each.
2 Terminator Chaos Lords, one with a Daemon Weapon and Combi-Melta, one with a Lightning Claw, both with the Mark of Slaanesh.
Keith had, approximately:
2x5 CSM
3x10 Chaos Terminators. One Icon each of Khorne, Nurgle, and Tzeentch, a couple of Combi-Meltas and Flamers each, and some PowerFists and Chainfists scattered around. I think each Squad had two Reapers as well.
2 Terminator Sorcerers with the Mark of Slaanesh and Lash.
The Mission was an Alpha Level Seek and Destroy. I put my CSM Squads on each Flank, safely out of sight, and the Termi Squad with two Reapers more or less in the center. My Lords and the other two Termi Squads were in Reserves.
Keith Deployed everything. From my left to right, he had Khorne Termis with one of the Sorcerers nearby, the other Sorcerer and some CSMs, Nurgle Termis, Tzeentch Termis, and the last CSMs.
I got first turn. I kept the CSMs hidden, and advanced with my one Squad. Some lucky shots with Reapers and Combi-Bolters dropped 3 Nurgle Termis!
Keith then advanced with pretty much everything. He lashed my Termis forward with his center Sorcerer, but the one on the his right rolled boxcars, and took a wound from Perils of the Warp instead.
Turn two I rolled well on my Reserves and got one more Squad and both Lords in. I used the Icon on the Squad that had been lashed forwards to bring them in nice and close without any risky scatter. I dropped a couple of Khorne Termis with shooting, and most of the center CSM Squad, then finished the Marines off with a charge.
Keith blasted up my center Squad pretty well, and lashed them over to get charged by his Tzeentch Termis, who finished them off. On my left he charged into my Black Legion Squad with the Khorne Termis. Thanks to the Icon of Slaanesh, I was striking first, so I picked up the dice for 4 Power Weapon and 12 Lightning Claw Attacks. And missed with 13 of them, and then failed to Wound, even with the re-rolls on the other three. Fortunately, his rolling wasn't much better than mine, and I only lost a couple, and passed the Break test.
Turn three not much happened. My last Squad didn't come on. One of my Lords charged and killed off one of his Sorcerers with his Daemon Weapon, and the combat with the Khorne Termis ground on. The Nurgle Termis eventually made it over to help out. and finished off my Lords and the Black Legion Squad, although I killed off his other Sorcerer and took the Nurgle Termis down to half strength and the Khorne Squad below.
My last Squad finally came in. I teleported them in conservatively, back in range of one of my CSM Icons. They shot at, and were then charged by the Tzeentch Termis. The two Squads bashed each other apart for a while, and then the Nurgle Termis managed to charge in right as I finished off the Tzentch ones. Fortunately for me Keith only made contact with one of my models, and I was able to pull that from one of his Power Weapon attacks, avoiding the 12 PowerFist attacks that would have followed and keeping my Squad above half Strength.
Because my CSM Squads had spent most of the game either running or hiding, I had three Scoring Units left to Keith's two, giving me a narrow victory. It was a fun game, and a very nice change from the horde on horde battles that most of my recent games have been.
And, just to finish things off, since we never got all 64 Terminators on the board at once during the game, here's a shot of both armies facing off dramatically:
