Chaos Objective Conversions (PIC HEAVY!)

Well, I know it is not a Nid conversion, but I would like your opinion. I'm creating/converting a 25mm base Chaos Objective marker, and a 40mm Diorama (that will be used as an Objective marker also) for a friend of mine. I can NOT sculpt very well (I know I can't do faces or anything from scratch), as I have always been limited to filling and maybe the occasional hair or fur. I would appreciate any comments and/or constructive criticisms.

The 25mm is done. It is supposed to be a kind of power staff, with a ball of Lava on the top, based in an snowy ash-like rock. It is my 1st attempt at lava (and the pictures are not that good)... The rod is some of my Necron's left-over... I used red rods, instead of the classic greens. You can see that it was drilled and pinned.






The 40mm one still a work in Progress (WiP). It is supposed to be a Chaos Summoner, bringing a wolf-daemon from the warp via a magical portal, while sucking an unfortunate Space Marine to his doom. Also on a snowy ash-rock field.

You will notice that I magnetized the portal's base, and the points of attachments of the creatures. This serves a dual purpose.

• Allows easy storage and transport.
  
• Allows on-the-fly customization.

You may notice that the sorcerer look funny. I do not know what GW model it is, but it was given to me without the top of the staff nor left hand. I pinned the top of the staff with some impaled skulls (from Chaos bits), and used a hand (not sure of what) to hold the Chaos Manuscript. The hand is bigger, and will be painted in such a way that will reflect this mutation. Maybe shades of purple. In one of the early pics, you see the spot where the backpack is supposed to be attached. Since I have no backpack, I sculpted some green-stuff long hair. It is hard to see in the pic, but there is a pony-tail strap on it. Paint should bring this out.

The SM is simply an old model cut at an angle. Notice one of the feet is pointing down. It looks smaller, because it is! I didn't had green-stuff, so I made it with plastic glue. You know the one that bonds plastic... by melting it. Weird experiment. Came out OK, but really hard to make.

The wolf-daemon is a Dire Wolf cut in half. Filled the teeth and shoved a magnet in the hole. There is some fur sculpting, but nothing to write home about.

I really like the idea, but unfortunately the model you've been given isn't very good for the diorama. Since he's walking, it just looks like he's about to get jumped by the wolf. A static model would've been better but I suppose it's not your fault.

I love the hair by the way, it looks really good and is a great idea to cover up the missing part.

I'm not a fan of the cut in half space marine, I just think it looks more like he's being transformed into a wolf than being sucked into the vortex that created the wolf-demon.

I like all your customisation, but the design aspects could be better executed. Of course, the paint job could make it looks fantastic. in my head, I've got loads of ideas how the vortex could be done, haha.

Yeah, it definitely looks like the Marine is getting transformed into the wolf daemon. I kinda like that concept, though. And since you've got it magnetized, you could make a bunch of different guys getting sucked through so he could put a Guardian or an Ork Boy or a Gaunt or whatever getting sucked in depending on who he's playing against

The first one looks really nice. I love that Crystal in the Claw bit from the Plague Monk sprue. I need to find some Skaven players so I can get more of those. Soooo many conversion ideas with them.

This looks quite promising. Though I agree it looks like the marine is being transformed into a wolf. The Crystal claw is very nice, a simple conversion that really looks great. As for the Chaos Summoner himself, with his new hair style he kinda looks like Enrico Maxwell from the Hellsing manga and OVA series.

It'd be nice if you added some kind of ripple effect on the wall on the side the marine is going in, it might fill up some of the gaps

Thanks guys. I started painting (no pics yet); the marine is a Blood Angel, and came out very nice. The wold-daemon is done... I had to green stuff the gaps on his head and file his teeth. Paint came very nice. I tried my new 10/0 brush to paint the eyes (red with yellow dot). Looks very... err... demonic! *shrug*

I started painting the portal. I painted it, and it looks kindda cartoonish. I wanted a dark green blending to white in the center, where creatures are touching. My wife said it remineded her to the old batman show... you know BAM! POW! CRUNCH!. Now that it is dry, I will try to dry-brush it to soften the colors. This time in a circles, instead on lines from the middle.

citizen: I thought of the model backing out of the way. But I see your point... is not too dynamic. Feel free to share those vortex ideas. I could sure use a fresh point of vew.

assimilator: Thanks for your kind comments... I wasn't sure if the lava was done right.

westrider: HERETIC! How you dare to think of a Gaunt beign transformed to a wolf-daemon. We should think of it of a Gaunt going to assimilate the Warp! I will tell my friend about your idea... he will probably make some other halves!

hex: Your idea of the ripple effect is awesome... unfortunately I don't have any. Besides, is not for me! I will have it in mind for the future... will be a good project to start playing with that thing.
