My first human face sculpt

Ok I got a lot of stick for shadowsun's lousy face from across the boards, this remark particularly struck a cord.

Work on your face sculpting. Lots. Seriously. It lets the whole model down.

OK So I tried a human face sculpt to practice. This is my first human face sculpt. Its to scale with 40k size heads.

OK onto my first attempt... yes its not so good, it looks like slooth out of the goonies, HEY YOU GUYS!




After seeing the extreme close up I had to go back and poke it a bit more with a sharp tool to tidy it up. Also added a cool scar, purely because it was easy to do lol.

Still needs a bit of work in places (nose and eyes) but I'm getting into this sculpting lark.

Big thanks to Simon Proctor of Ramshackle games. I bought the procreate putty from him on ebay and its freaking amazing. It doesn't stick to the tools, and looks way cool in grey.

Thats a pretty good face sculpt. I find faces really hard to do, because of the size as well. I found waiting until the medium your using was very firm made it easier for me, got any tips your using to share Gareth?

Hahaha... and garfy who said he had no exp sculpting. Your doing great, make something that ain't screaming next time, just because about 100% of all gw models are screaming. You should also try and make a female model (your shadowsun dun count).

im interested in ordering some of this stuff, but i need to know something. this putty looks alot more rough/hard to work with than GS. the head you made kind of looks "bumpy", and iF you know what i mean GS is smoother.

the actual sculpt of the head is very proffesional.

BTW: how old are you and how long did it take you to make the head?

its smoother then greenstuff. Its like 3mm wide, you're viewing it at extreme magnification. Its not rough at all. Milliputt is rough.
I'm 26 and the head took less then an hour to do.
