since i'm new here i'll post some of the recent devlopments i'm in the progress of. i've taken this striaght from the forum it was first posted on.
Recently i redid my Tyranid 1000 pts which i concentrated on cc more then guns. this got me back into my nids (at least till i get the new chaos codex) and i am currently in a 2000 pts slug fest with Orks (turn 2 i charged him, can anyone say 92 attacks?) and it made me reallise one thing about my nid army. my swarms are too fast for my synaspe creatures to keep up, so it got me thinking about new strategies for my army.
and this is what it came up with:
and a comparison with a defiler for size
when i did research on what people have done to have niddy wings i also realised that almost all the tyrants had legs, being conversion mad as i am i went for a goyle master look. i made this out of my old tyrant that i replaced with the new one, the red terrors lower body and tail, dragon wings, and the bonesword and lash whip from the new one. the base has been tiled with plastic card and the pillar is made of balsa wood. the only thing left to do is sculpt the tail of the wireframe and fill out the back and make the wings look niddy (by replacing the bones with scything talons)
here are the biomorphs its got.
Bonesword & lashwhip
scything talons
adrenal glands (WS 6)
Bio-plasma
Toxin sacs
winged
psychic power: Warp blast
182pts
combat role - anti-tank supporter
anti tank - this nasty bug can fly from cover to cover not allowing the tank itself to fire on it, when this thing gets up close it can attack with 5 S6 attacks with 2d6 armor pen and also use the bio-plasma at S7 to take on the smaller armoured units. if it can get to the tank for another two turns and is within 18 inch it can pass a psychic test and fire a S10 ap 2 shot at the tank with a high chance to penertrate.
supporter - as well as being a good fighter the thing also helps with it's Horror psychic power by hopfully stoping a elite unit from charging your little ones first, using it as bait will either A- get the enemy in cantact with something they wish they didn't or B - make them fail a leadership test and not allowed to charge that turn. this will help the hormagaunts (who move 9 inch and assualt 12 inch with a 3 inch attack range with 3 attacks each) either help the tyrant in combat with massed attack or allow them to get into combat with them with a chance of wiping out the unit and moving into a fresh one behind them.
also the bonesword gives the Tyrant catlyst which allow it to make its attacks even when its been killed, if he passes a psychic test EVERY unit within 6 inch (on my side of corse) benefits from it as well. combine this with the feeder tendrils of the lictor or genestealer (prefered enemy against everyone allowing itself and units within 2 inch to hit on 3+) makes it a very deadly combo.
