Tyranid Codex wish list
I've been looking over the Tyranid codex and wondering what to do about all the glaring issues and what GW would be willing to do to fix said problems. Printing a new codex and giving our money back is what they should do but we all know that's not going to happen. Their FAQ section has defiantly changed codices and what they can do. If they didn't, I could take missile drones in all my Tau units!
Now, I know they're not going to totally rewrite an entire unit, nor will they FAQ in a lost unit like the Doom and the spore (We can start a "I wish forgeworld would make ____" topic about those guys). So the only things I'll be changing are minor, one line tweeks that should make a huge difference. My thoughts on each change is in
blue so its easier to read.
pg 39 - Instinctive Behaviour
D6
1-2 First result
3-5 second result
6 Third Result
While keeping the same feeling that GW had, I reduced the horrible results. Making synapse still needed but not totally self defeating without it.pg 41 & pg 125 - Tyranid Prime
Psyker (Mastery Level 1) (Tyranid Prime Only)
This makes the Prime more HQ like and not just another warrior with a bit more survivability. It also makes him more worth his points.pg 43 & pg 96 - Genestealers
Add Stealth to Special Rules
All the fluff I have ever read about stealers is that they leap out of the shadows. So why can't they take better use of said shadows?pg 44 & pg 98 - Lictors
Unit Type: Infantry (Character)
Lictors are the assassins of the Hive Mind. This allows them to target characters in challenges or make them cower, as well as precision hits to take out what they want. This makes them much more suited to their role.pg 46 & pg 98 - Hive Guard
Add Symbiotic Targeting to Special Rules
Hive Guard get their sight from everything everywhere. So if it doesn't need to concentrate on moving then it can aim better!pg 48 - Tervigons
Synaptic Backlash has a 6" range
The 12" is way to punishing, reduced for balance.pg 51 - Haruspexes
Weapons & Biomorphs add Flesh Hooks
Special Rules include Feel No Pain
Feeder-beast: replace "lost earlier in battle." with "up to a maximum of 10. Note that regeneration will only recover loss wounds up to a maximum of 5."
Rapacious Hunger: Remove "In the turn in which a Haruspex charges, "
This is one of the biggest changes. Flesh hooks because he has a mouth full of them. For the FNP and Feeder-beast, I made the Haruspex an all consuming beast that will feed on everything and anything. Like it should be. pg 55 - Trygon
Subterranean Assault. Add after 2nd paragraph.
"Any of these units held in reserve may be dedicated to arrive from a Trygon's Tunnel. Do not roll for these units until a Trygon Tunnel is available. These units must arrive via tunnel, any units not able to arrive this way by the end of the game are considered destroyed."
This is just a "no d'uh" situation. Could probably be worded better! pg 60 - Old One Eye
Remove Instinctive Behaviour (feed)
Alpha Leader: Add at the bottom. "In addition, any friendly carnifex units within 12" do not need to test for instinctive behaviour."
HQ units shouldn't have instinctive behaviour. I also added in that last rule so that OOE will be this alpha wolf for a pack of fexes. It doesn't replace synapse but does make him more HQ and list changing, like he should be.pg 61 & pg 95 - Death Leaper
Remove Instinctive Behaviour (Lurk)
HQ units shouldn't have instinctive behaviour.pg 63
Swiftstrike; Add at the end "In addition the user does not suffer the penalty to their Initiative for charging enemies through difficult terrain."
Added close combat ability to close combat upgrade. Should have been like this since the beginning.pg 64
Drool Cannon is a Torrent weapon as well.
Flamespurt is a Torrent weapon as well.
Between the limited mobility of a flyer and the disappearance of spores, this was needed.pg 67
Acid Maw; remove whole paragraph. Replace with "Acid maw is a close combat weapon with the following profile"
This makes pyrovores deadly in close combat and worth considering.Wings: Add after "Other units that have this biomorph are jump infantry."
For clarification when the Prime takes it.pg 68
Norn Crown; Add after "In addition, the bearer and any friendly tyranid unit in synapse range of the bearer gain Eternal Warrior."
This still paints a big target on the bearer, but also helps with resilience. pg 93
Add at the top "When there are two costs the first is for non-monstrous creatures and the second is for monstrous creatures"
Acid Blood ... 10/15
Adrenal glands ...10/15
Regeneration ... 15/30
The Miasma Cannon ... 20
The Norn Crown ... 30
Ymgarl Factor ... 15/25
The Reaper of Obliterax ... 40
The points cost for these things always confused me. I've balanced them more for non MCs. Regeneration for a Prime shouldn't be the same cost as regeneration for a T-fex!pg 94
Old One Eye; Options May add up to two carnifex (pg 102)
Gives him his own brood which helps with survivability.pg 95
Tervigon; Options May upgrade to Mastery Level 2 ... 15 pts
Added in more utility for the Tervigon. Making him more specialized in his role.Tyranid Prime; Options May take wings ... 20 pts
If he can boost Shrikes, then he should be able to join them.Deathleaper; Options May add up to two Lictors (pg 98)
Gives him his own brood, helping with survivability.pg 96
Genestealer Brood 60pts
Additional Genestealers ... 12 pts/models
All Genestealers may take Flesh Hooks ... 2 pts/model
Fixes point cost for 6th edition because of the shooting focus. Also, assault grenades! The Scuttling Swarm: Reduce from 30 to 20.
Reduced tax for balance.pg 97
Ripper Swarm Brood 27 Points
Additional Ripper Swarms ... 9 pts/model
Per wound, Rippers are not equal or better then Termagants, therefore, should be cheaper.pg 100
Ravener Brood; Options May take spine banks ... 2 pts/model
Spine banks make sense as they are mini Trygons and Trygon Primes can shoot spines.Sky-Slasher Swarm Brood 42 Points
Addition Sky-slasher swarms ... 14 pts/base
pg 102
Trygon; May take Spine banks ... 5pts
Trygon Prime; May take Spine banks ... 5pts
Trygon Primes can already shoot spines, so why not more?So there you have it. Without totally tossing the codex and trying to keep to whatever GW was thinking. Here's my thoughts on something easy they could do before they cause an angry mob.
What do you think? Anything I missed? Anything you disagree with?
---Edit 1---
Agreed about the FAQ thing. But like I said, we're probably not going to get a huge remake anytime soon. But a big FAQ could help. But i'll rename it for now.
Didn't Dark Eldar have a X.5 codex at one point?
