After thinking about it alot, I think he's fine the way he is. I like the idea of exposing his gear to the orb's magic, but he would be extremly heasitant to use it on himself. And I don't think he really needs regeneration and a low ward save, since I'm pretty sure it's possible to give him a considerable armor save anyway, and that plus a low ward save seems like enough, especially since it seems you can roll for armor and a ward save in fantasy.
But here's some idea's I threw into the maybe pile, but ultimatly rejected because this started giving me a headache.
1.)After being exposed to the orb his enimies see him as what they fear most (like a giant/dragon/etc.). So maybe he could singlehandedly cause terror or some such.
2.) After staring into the intoxicating glow of the orb, he gained the abilty to read minds. So maybe he could get re-rolls in CC or some such.
3.) Just to emphasize the fact that he's a brutal brawler I was considering a special rule with him getting +1 attack for a shield and hand weapon as if it were 2 hand weapons. Since he likes to hit people with the shield ;D.
4.) I also thaught about a special throwing rule. Like, if he was in a challenge, and he rolled a certain way (maybe if he got all hits like the red-terror) he could throw the opposing challenger 2d6" in a direction determined by a scatter dice. I'm doubt it's practicle, I just had this cool image in my head of him tossing an enemy (perhaps the Dogs of war general where he got that helmet from) and then they land right in front of a salamander that's shooting off its flamethrower or a charging stegodon ;D.
