More lethal shooting edition.

Now that this edition is more lethal and tank toughness has been increased, everyone is taking more antitank shooting.

I am surprised to see more infantry armies.
What were the trends in past additions which where very shooty? Does it drive the meta away from tanks towards more infantry?

Yup, Infantry heavy lists take over once anti-tank becomes a large part of the meta’s offense. Infantry has always had it better than Tanks anyway, number of wounds has largely always been the most important defensive statistic and infantry can usually have more wounds for less pts than tanks.

One of the most important aspects of 40K has always been not to bring what your opponent wants to kill. Every point your opponent spends on a fancy anti tank weapon is a point wasted when he has to shoot that weapon at a gaunt.

So GW made Tyranids better suited for the upcoming meta by depriving us of anti-tank weapons?

It also doesn't hurt that devastating wounds can only kill a single gaunt regardless of damage.

It is too bad we lack any real anti tank OR anti infantry lethality. Sure we have a few tools that can do work, but they are over expensive. All we can do effectively is fill the board with cheap bodies and use movement shenanigans to win at objectives while ignoring the whole fighting thing going on.
I wish I found that kind of playstyle ... fun.

I have to disagree on Nids lacking anti-infantry, we can kill non-Monsters/Vehicles very well in shooting and melee. OOE and 2x 2DS Carnifex are a pretty decent unit, being a force multiplier when taken in an Invasion Fleet detachment.

Yeah, the pile of D3+blast with sustained, possible heavy+rrs, we've got lots of good anti-infantry options in shooting, plus melee with trygon, haru, OOE+friends (plus I think maybe some stuff like melee warriors/ravs have the theoretical output into infantry). Not something I've really felt lacking.

AT is more 'hope that lethal and 5+ gets there', which it can but isn't exactly great. Or zoans, but after the price hike I don't think they're better enough to really justify.

Melee Warriors probably have the best output in the codex into anything T5 or less, they just weren’t taken earlier in 10E due to the Custode Warden blocks. Vanguard’s Surprise Assault or a Neruolictor can help them drop anything T9 or less. Melee Warriors are at home in Nexus/Vanguard, where they can get the +1 to-hit (boosting them to 4TEQ/10MEQ).They are only okay in Invasion Fleet (prob still the best overall detachment), and are over-priced there imo. Prime is also a bad take in IF, paying for a redundant buff in most games isn’t great.

Warriors in VO are damn awesome with Prime. With SA they are scoring over 40 hits, twin linked and a chance for a +1 to wound. Plus the attacks from the Prime. All this with charge after advance is sweet.
