Best unit against Dreadnoughts

I have a Space Wolf opponent that uses a lot of Dreadnoughts.  What is the best unit(s) to take them down?  Especially BjornThe Fell Handed!

I've encountered a few dreadnoughts, but I don't commonly see them used. Even so, they very quickly get munched down by a few things. If my Tyrannofex doesn't have any good targets that phase, a rupture cannon generally kills dreadnoughts fairly easily. One-two carnifexes charging will probably rip through one. A big unit of genestealers using their rending claws. Hive guard with either impaler or haywire will do a good amount of damage. If there are better targets to prioritize with your heavy-hitters, tying them up with a big group of termagaunts or hormagaunts will do the trick. Rippers also work.

Thanks Sacron. I’ve read so many mixed things about the Tyrannofex, so I wasn’t sure if it was viable. I love the model!

GSC acolytes are also a good plan

I really do need to research incorporating some GSC. I just really don’t want to buy another codex 😂

An acidfex will also decimate them with 2d6 auto hit s7 d3 damage shots (if you can get in range).

My favourite is an exocrine with pathogenic slime to do 3damage a pop. Making 3 wounds kill instead of 4. Can kill 2 with only slightly above average rolls.

A rupturefex will need to roll slightly over average to kill 1 and is more expensive

Although if the army is mostly dreadnaughts big blobs of gs are best as they will also negate all multi damage and high ap weapons.

True. Assuming enough make it there in one piece 😂 Definitely need to buy a couple more boxes of Genestealers.

Kill the rest of the army. Dreadnoughts can't keep up with a scoring game. If it's the shooting variety, take them hostage with gribblies.

One of the weakest things in the game ATM. Do not forget to thank your opponent for taking them and taking a handicap

It's hard not to kill one with hive guard, especially with SMA.

Thanks for all of the responses. As a new Tyranid player, the guidance is very much appreciated. Hive Guard are definitely a priority for my growing army. I know that Dreadnoughts aren’t what they used to be, but Bjorn’s abilities are very annoying, so I want to take him down ASAP.

Up to 3 Venom Cannons (D3 shots, Str 8, -2 AP, D3 damage) in a unit of 9 Tyranid Warriors (with a Tyranid Prime nearby to give them +1 to their hit roles to hit on a 3+) or Heavy Venom Cannon (D3 shots, Str 9, -2 AP, 3 damage) on a Carnifex with Enhanced Senses (+1 to hit again to hit on a 3+) are some suggestions I can give.

Remember, both of these choices have had their points reduced to 12pts and 18pts respectively in Chapter Approved 2018 so well worth running.

I'm a strong proponent of Aberrants swinging Heavy Power Hammers, but all of the aforementioned things work just as well.
