My first list : 1000 pts friendly vs Craftworld need advice!

Hello,

This will be my first list  for a 1000 pts friendly game. I can swap the devilgants with genestealers but i feel the devilgants will be more useful.

Will be playing against a friend at home for fun.

He was craftworld, the composition of his army was
- 4 dark reapers+exarch
- a farseer on bike
- 20 defenders
- crimson exarch
- 9 windriders
- 10 snipers
- 1 character

Here is my list :

Hive Tyrant [11 PL, 215pts]
(Legendary Fighter, Heavy Venom Cannon, Scythes of Tyran, Warlord, Wings, gland, toxin)

Neurothrope [4 PL, 70pts]

Neurothrope [4 PL, 70pts]

Trygon with sac + gland [9 PL, 181pts]

3x Hive Guard with impaler cannon [7 PL, 144pts]
3 x warriors = 117 pts
12x Termagant (Devourer) 96pts
26x Termagants (flesborer) [6 PL, 104pts]

Strategy :

- bubblewrap the neurothorpes and warriors with flesborer gants
- hive guards under cover
- trygon tunnel + devilgant for Single minded annihilation shennanigans
- hive tyrant is behemoth , legendary fighter, with scythes of tyrant, he will drop behind enemy lines


here are the spare models i have :
- Rupturefex (can magnetize acidefex if needed)
- 16 genestealers
- 9 spore mines
- 3 warriors magnetized

Verdict, a very close tabling (i won), with only his Crimson hunter Exarch remaining on the table (and i didn't have anything serious left to take it down)

Some notes :

- when playing against shooty lists, everything MUST be undercover
- kraken is awesome
- neurothropes are awesome, smiting, catalyzing, psychic scream, all did an awesome job
- the tunnel-delivered trygon was useless as a damage dealer, his only influence in the fight was :
a) he forced the eldar to shift his units position to put basic troop units between my trygon and his windriders (bikes)
b) delivering devilgants to the frontline where they were put to good use with single-minded annihilation
All-in all, i feel he was a waste of points versus a shooty infranty list and bikes - probably my fault for bringing him
- hive guards with impaler cannons are terrible - not enough shots to beat the probabilities of hitting, and wounds not being saved, in a satisfactory manner
- tyrant is being focused so hard it's funny (and he died, after taking down a warlord and 80% of the dark reaper team) - that said, he is really the most powerful unit on the table
- 1000 pts eldar have fun shooting on turn 1, don't know what to do on turn 2 (too many threats), things are even on turn 3

What's more, we had fun !

You actually tabled him, as Boots on the Ground from Chapter Approved states that flyers are never scoring, and if they are all that is left you win.

Second, as a "fun" list, he sure managed to choose the best Aeldari units. Literally the only shining star that is missing is Eldrad, and/or Y'vraine. Your list is much more "fun themed" and that is probably why you felt certain units underperformed. At least he ONLY took 1 squad of Reapers..

Tryhards for the most part are dead taxi's. The last few games my Prime has been making a mess though, wrecking tons of stuff it has no business doing so. 8" charge isn't so bad, and even if all it does is deliver the unit the job is done. Remember, everything is expendable. If you paid 150-200 to keep max gants shooting with SMA then the job was done well. IMO Toxin is wasted on anything that isn't fishing for 6's, and is expensive for the T6 12W Monster.

Hive Guard are amazing. I would argue our single best shooting platform. 3 is rarely going to be amazing though, as that is the minimum. 6 with SMA should wreck something. IMO their ONLY downside is S8, but they seem to be designed as double tapping ignore cover Krak missiles. The more I play the more I realize -2AP usually is enough too, as most targets either are getting a 5++ anyways, or in the case of elite armies, rocking 3++, making the premium for -3 a little high.

Tyrants are powerful, there's a reason people are worried about them getting nerfed. That being said they are 12W characters that can't hide, like most of the Cheese fueled offenders. I have finally started making one a Warlord just to try, and with Adaptive/Chameleon they are hard nuts to crack for sure.

I sold my Aeldari at the start of 8th. This is the first edition since I started in 4th without them. No more OP cheese

not a bad starter list, a cheap improvement would be to buy 3 raveners and put the devilgaunts and one neurothrope with these as a jorm patrol. 1 cp to deepstrike.

this would allow you to drop the trygon, and maybee just change it for a mawloc with some other minor changes.

would also prob up the dev gaunts and lower the fleshborers.

Good idea with the raveners, altho i would bring back the trygon if a tank was involved in the equation.

As far as fleshborer, the problem was it was my screen and by the end i had 5 left so they did serve a purpose.
