Running three Biovores - viable?

So, I am thinking about putting together a Kronos spearhead detachment:

Neurotrophe
Biovore
Biovore
Biovore
6x Hive Guard (Impaler Cannons)

Anybody else running lists with three Biovores? What are your experiences with them? I don't think I want to run more than three, placing nine models out of LoS is already stretching it on the tables I usually play on.

I wish I had 3. That seems about a happy number. Enough that you can reliably degrade or finish off something, or block a few lanes, but not so many you are chewing up all your HS slots.

My poor loner has been with me since 4th, and he has never been able to get a friend. I use all the time.

It doesn't work all the time but I really like then in 1 squad then then using the strategim to fire twice. Its really good that time vs an army if they have some really tough units with good invuns.

I use three separate if I am going with a reserve heavy army in order to maximize my starting units on the board. In one unit to minimize drops at deployment and be able to use shoot again strat if not going reserve heavy

Didn't even notice Biovores were Infantry! Very nice.

In my defense I am still waiting for my Pyro....I mean Biovores to arrive by boat.

Three here, one unit as I need the other two slots for other things, they have yet to fail to cause rage in my opponents - long range mortal wound spam is great - especially avoiding a roll to would thus avoiding all the "nice" tricks some armies have.

Plus aiming to miss in order to drop spore mines to hem in key characters

Three has been a good number for me as well. Like you said, there’s only so much BLOS terrain and that’s a big part of their kit.

Could do more if you’re not doing a unit of Hive Guard...but Hive Guard are just SO GOOD for single-minded annihilation

Why would you not run at least three?

Watching your opponent forget one of the spore mines you put 3" away from his squishy heavy-weapons team for a whole turn is priceless.

Also three plus a Neurothrope is a complete Spearhead Detachment and extra command point in just 178 points.

If you don’t have the points or if you have enough hive guard that they monopolize the BLOS terrain.

A couple high placing GT lists had 9-12 Hive Guard. Not much more terrain than that so someone gets left out in the open

Biovores are really good, even when they miss (and mine seem to always miss). The longer the game goes on and the more of your opponents units you've tied up/destroyed the less things they have to counter your leftover spore mines. My last game I had my biovores kill 3 Space Marines and 1 Drop pod just because they were the misses from earlier and my opponent had more to worry about then spore mines. Not only that but not needing LoS and a 48" gun makes Biovores solid bug artillery for few points.

Yeah, that is true

But it seems to be the case, so I am going for it first thing next year.

I always run 3, but I like having up to 6. You have a serious capacity to control your opponent’s movement with 6.

I really agree with this statement. Having 1 or 2 or 3 is never bad, but they become a real hidden threat at 6+.

Too bad the model isn't affordable because if I could run 3 units of 3 Biovores every game I would. So much potential for Mortal wounds and blocking your opponents movement since all the mines you place are separate. I've had a blast with my 3, need to go full in to Kronos spearhead with 9 and blanket bombard squads.
