Charging after coming out of deep strike.

So I've been watching battle reports for 8th edition, and it seems that when they it's come out of deep strike they are rolling 9 To try and make a charge. But the rule book says you need to be MORE than 9 inches away from enemy models. So would t this mean you would actually need to roll at least a 10 to make a charge coming out of deep strike or reserves or am I missing something?

You need to end within 1'' for the assault to be succesful.
9.x -9 = 0.x <1

With adrenal glands you only need to roll an 8!

Yeah, 42% chance to be successful on the charge. I hate those odds, lol. One of the reasons why I decided against buying a Trygon... which is a shame, because the model is awesome.

Trygon is still great for delivering say, full brood of devilgants. Whatever your shooting, trygon is worth having in your collection.

On topic, charging from DS definitely needs AG and then some. You sort of have to commit a lot of resources to DS charges by having at least two units that will do it. Ups your change but you still may need a CP reroll if you care.

I keep hearing Devilgants for the Trygon, but I am not really seeing it. They get to shoot once when they pop out, next turn they get shot to pieces and/or tied up in melee. Of course than the Trygon has something to munch on, but the Gants still lose at least one turn of shooting, probably two turns. 215 for the Trygon Prime, 240 for the Gants... 455 is a lot of points. And you have to deal with finding enough room to set up the Trygon plus all the little buggers in the first place. I thought about using a full unit of Warriors with a regular Trygon, but it seems somewhat of a waste running 9 Warrios without a Tyranid Prime.

You can set it up turn one, so you don't have to lose any turns of shooting, in fact it can put you in a better position to be in range with all of the models, and provides bubble wrap for that trygon to reach something heavy.

Devilgants are the most cost effective small arms shooting platform Nids have. Not many codexes have 3 shots S4 for 8 points. 

They're also usually coming in as part of a wrap breaker manouveur - Their main and probably only job is to thin out the wrap so much that your melee units can make charges happen. And honestly there should be better stuff to shoot at rather than Devilgants. When there isnt... then something somewhere has gone terribly wrong.

x90 S4 shots, is going to kill SOMETHING. 

I don't know of any unit of mine I want taking x90 shots of anything.

It can be devastating.

With losing a turn I meant when the devilgants get tied up in melee in the opponents turn after they popped up... he should have some kind of unit that he can throw into melee with them. You are not going to catch a Devastor squad all by its lonesome that often I guess. Reducing 90x S4 reroll 1s to 30x S3 no reroll should be pretty much first priority. If you want bubblewrap for your Trygon, use Hormagants instead?

Bubble wrapping isn't the purpose, it's just a bonus. I agree that it would be easy to charge them, but to be honest whenever a blob of termagants is in range to fire, it's in enemy charge range pretty much. It's about giving them enough other things they should be charging instead; someone recently said if the enemy has time to deal with termagants, something else has gone seriously wrong.

To be fair I'd charge a tac squad in there just to tie them up. Its nit like before where shooting and charging were linked. But generally you're coming up near something to shoot, and if its infantry that something is most likely dead and unable to charge you.

Its expensive and i doubt it will be useful going forward into the meta - metal birds and all are a right pain to deal with and have no need for wrap. But its good to keep in mind that its there.

Lets not forget that the Termagant 20 man drop was actually MORE effective at shooting than the Flyrant we lived on (Flyrant won because its harder to kill both in isolation and in an army list without support)... 30 is monstrous.

When you drop trygon prime + devilgants you gain a very large footprint that HAS to be dealt with. Your in their backfield with an ass ton of shots. You're not back their shooting tanks, your lighting up things that. Will. Die.

And as above, previously we had 240 points for a TL flyrant (though S6) and it was awesome. But had to make it back there. Now we have 280 for 90(!!!!) shots. Yes "only" S4. But come on! 90 shots. And the prime. This is threat overload. Now charge up with your full GS squad or w/e. Go us!

Charging the gaunts just to tie them up is your opponent gladly sacrificing a unit. Provided no casualties from his shooting, you are still making 90 overwatch shots as well... with an average of 15 hits, 7'ish wounds against a 10man tac squad, the squad is probably wiped due to weight of numbers and battleshock... then the surviving termagants (immune to battle shock due to prime) just shoot someone else and lost no turns at all.

Do the 20 dev, 10 fleshborer with a podded tervigon (maybe you don't own enough gs, and thus have the points to spare) and you just replace your losses from the CC, as well. Sure it drops your shot count from 90 to 70, but how many shots do you really need to garuantee battleshock does the rest? Not coubting commisars, anyway, but we have ratlings for that.

I've never seen any before. Quite frankly i dont know any other army that's scared of them. I may be underestimating their mortal wound potential though.
