Best ways we have in 8th to deal with vehicles?

What are some of the best units to deal with vehicles? The exocrine seems good at everything. high toughness vehicles are rough. I have been having difficulty with our cannons. Mass devilgaunt fire seems like the way to go to put wounds on something but, still not great.

I'm relearning the tyranids and seem to have some issues with high toughness vehicles.

Hive guard seem to be a great anti vehicle with both weapon options

Wrecker Claw Stonecrusher Carnifexes. Any Carnifex with OOE support.

Hive Guard (shockcannons deal more damage but come with exposing the unit and shorter range), Exocrines, Carnifexes. Trygons are also pretty good since they have better fighting hits (3+) than all our other monsters, plus D6 damage on their talons.

Aside from what has been said:

- Genestealers w/ Toxin Sacs rip Vehicles to shreds.

- Swarmlord will eat any standard Vehicle in a single round of CC.

- Hive Crones/Harpies are pretty good as well, they leap over the front lines and pour their firepower into a Vehicle, then charge it. Better against artillery like a Wyvern, Basalisk, or Whirlwind than against a heavy tank like a Leman Russ or Land Raider.

Frankly, we do pretty well against Vehicles this edition.

I don't really like Trygons for anti-vehicle because, as another poster here astutely pointed out, they have S6 and most vehicles are T7 or higher, meaning they'll only wound on a 5+.

Best bets are Stonecrusher Carnifexes (requires FW), Old One Eye (but you can only take one), Exocrine, and Hive Guard with either Impalers or Shockcannons. Shockcannons are considerably stronger than Impalers against Vehicles but, with only 24" range and a 5" move, are unlikely to be able to hit any backline vehicles unless you pod them in. Impalers can kill MEQ, TEQ, etc. much more effectively than Shockcannons, making them better in a TAC list.

Assault it with Gaunts. Then it cant shoot, and it will strike back at what, 6+ most the time? Its one of the rules i dont like this edition but you can bet im going to exploit the hell out of it.

I'd like to add Genestealers with toxin sacs to the list, as well as anything with Monstrous Rending Claws (Broodlord & Hive Tyrant). Genestealers are scary and will wreak the face of pretty well anything they come into combat with. My Genestealers without toxin sacs and Broodlord managed to pop a Land Raider in one combat round; I think there were 15 of them at that point. 60 attacks hitting on 2/6 with AP-4 should get you about 8 attacks through, with Toxin Sacs that's 16 damage (as you needed 6's to wound anyway) with no AP save. I think that's how many wounds a Land Raider has? The broody finished it off in my game.

Stone Crusher is the obvious option, with rules specifically giving it bonuses to fighting vehicles, however without something like Onslaught to get it into combat I think it's going to get deleted before it can get there. Worst case scenario if it makes it, 4/3 re-rolling missed hits and wounds, D6 damage x 4 attacks. There's a good - fair chance that three of those attacks make it through, meaning you're rolling up to 18 damage (avg. 10-11).

Exocrines do the damage well but tend to be the focus of your opponent's high strength weaponry due to their threat potential. Hive Guard compare with Exocrine point for point and have the added bonus of being able to hide from view. Take a Malenthrope to babysit both in a points game for extra survivability.

Haven't tried the Trygon against a tank yet, but those D6 wounds should help.

Acolytes using Drills had a fun time busting open transports. T7 3+ 12W wave serpent got wrecked in a single round.

I don't know what book you're reading from but Trygons are strength 7 and it doesn't degrade.

You're entirely right. I was dimly recalling a thread about attacking a Knight with a Trygon, and somehow got S6 v T7 confused with S7 v T8. My bad.

How are you going to target tanks with smite? Don't get me wrong smite is great, and bonus damage but the closest target part of it makes it just a bonus for when you've already casted the other 3 spells. 

Zoanthropes just don't seem worth the points. The 3+ save is nice combined with spirit leech is also great, makes it a really hardy unit. But just seems like a lot of points to invest into something that gets 2d3 damage on the closest enemy unit.

One thing hasn't been mentioned is flying hive tyrants with scything talons + smite does put on some wounds.

Best one though is TS Genestealers, it's my all purpose everything unit. It's only weakness is mass flamers
