What kind of loadout for Chosen?

Hello Hive, a quick question for my fellow Chaos players: How do you gear up a group of tax Chosen for the Chaos warband? They have access to quite a bit of special shooting weapons and one heavy weapon. My first thought was one Lascannon, 2 Meltaguns, 1 Plasma and 1 Flamer, just for a good allaround unit.

Though I have 1k in CSM, the bulk being chosen, I don't have too much (1 game, long time ago) experience with them, so you know, salt.

If they are a tax, my first response is keep them cheep. But you never want a unit to go to waist, so I'll UG that to a melta and flame, maybe two melta if your not tight on points. Something to keep in mind for when your mixing so many weapon types is the range of each, and if it means trying to be an all-comers squad with everything and then you just get one shot at max weapon range and the rest are then basically waisted points. But you want them to handle should something come up, so, go light. Melta or two and a flamer, put them around as you may and play them as the tax. Never go full-in on a tax unit though. GL.

bolk Unless you are bringing them for a tax they are not worth their points. I don't play Chaos but my son does and I have played them more times than I can count. My son typically takes a champion (is that the name) with a weapon to deal with challenges. The rest are just ablative wounds. Camp on a backfield objective in cover and charge anything that gets close.

Hmm, well for a Chaos warband you must choose between Chosen, Terminators or Possessed, so I thought the best thing would be shooty Chosen. It's frustrating having an expensive unit doing nothing but objective camping, you already have 2 tax CSM squads in the warband.

My son puts them in rhinos so there are 4 objective campers. It's works decently. Then again he runs with flesh hounds and is CC oriented.

Guess I'll test out both kinds and see. Nothing beats testing a list in an actual game. Maybe I'll see how it works with a squad of terminators as well. Completely went by me that they come stock with any kind of power weapon.

I have a bunch because of some set they came in a while back, so ebay was flooded with them. Honestly, I like their bulked up look and just use them as my basic CSM. I like what Matt's son is doing, I'll keep that in mind myself.

Yeah, they look awesome, but I don't know if I have the nerves to paint enough of them to cover all the regular csm I need. So many details xD

Two squads of 5 baby! and about a dozen more in storage, I only liked one or two poses and hey, it was a great deal at the time haha. I think I'll skimp on those details.

Chosen are a mixed bag, but with their options you can do a whole lot with them, and depending on what detachment you take them in, can be obsec to boot.

Remember that a "well rounded" unit doesn't do anything well. Avoid mixing weapons that have different ideal targets.

Alpha legion have those sweet infiltrating chosen. Load up on the special weapon that treats what ails you. Flamers, melta, w/e.

2 attacks base and not being characters means you can make a nasty CC unit as well, with non-challengeable axes and PF. World eater chosen can get stupid fast. EC chosen are rocking mauls and LC at I5.

The issue is generally their expense, because you're not getting those toys for free (VotLW aside).

You're right, making an allround unit is not worth it. I'm playing mostly World Eaters and Night Lords. Good point on the non-challengeable special melee weapons.
Yeah, I was only thinking of them when I take a Warband, since I think Chosen will be a better choice than Termies, but I have to test it out in a few games. Like you said, WE legion get really quick, and Termies might actually get into combat with that rule.

in some of the legion formations, the warband isn't an awful pick. everything in it is obsec.

With a unit as versatile as chosen I'd figure out the rest of the army first before deciding what the chosen need to do.

I wouldn't write off terminators though. In a warband you already have two CSM units, probably a unit of havocs and probably some melta bikes, so chosen don't really bring anything new.
