Warzone Atlanta GT bat reps, or 'JPorks first ever GT"

I participated in my first ever gt this past weekend, and I can say in all honesty Paul and the whole FTN crew definitely know how to throw one hell of an event; given my previous tournament experience has been several RTT, I was in literal AWE of how well organized this event was. The TOs and all of the other helpers/support were all as nice as could be.

Did I mention they also had an event bar with pretty girls bringing cocktails to your table during each match? If that's not enough to get anyone in the southeast US down here, I don't know what is. They also announced the event WILL be held next year as well.

Anyway, on to the games. I somehow managed to go 3-2 without getting tabled in either of my losses. Got something like 18, 19, 19 points in my wins.

My list was 2 nid CAD and the new tau stealth formation with the ghostkeels and stealth suits, because #bugstruggle had me feeling like I was going to be tabled every game without some way of reliably 1 shotting vehicles. It worked amazing, despite only playing 2 practice games with the tau actually in my list.

I managed to play the whole tourney without forcing a single one eye open roll. Because the check is only at the start of movement, I was able to start my turns with the tau dangerously close to the nids, move within 12", but then jet scoot safely out of range of OOE range after shooting.

Let's just say this formaion made SO many things way less scary than pure nids. Ignores cover melta (blasts) wth interceptor is INSANE. I repeat INSANE!

Game 1 my opponent, (Jeremy iirc) was running a superfriends style cent star. Tiggy, draigo, cotteaz, Mephiston, a white scars bike chaplain, 3 grav cents, are all I can remember.

I do remember quite vividly that it was both invisible nearly the entire game, and also gating around the table courtesy of draigo. The one or two turns it wasn't Invis, I managed to cause 15 or so failed invuln rolls...

... I think I managed to kill 2 teletubbies for all of my efforts, due to some extremely clutch feel no pain rolls on Jeremy's part. As we both acknowledged, things may have gone very differently if he hadn't absolutely crushed his FNP. Superfriends had just gated and conveniently clumped themselves together for the non scattering melta blasts.

Anyway, I really had no chance in this game, but my opponent was a great guy, and I managed not to get tabled. Think I scored 5-6 points.

Game 2 was also one I knew I had no chance of winning from the get go. My opponent, Will, was running eldar.

Something like jetseer council, eldrad, shooty wraithknight, obsec jet bikes, swooping hawks and 2 units of warp spiders. Found out the hard way that warp spiders are extremely annoying to deal with.

Not gonna bother with play by play, as I'm sure most of you can imagine how this game went down. I still managed not to get tabled. Think I might have got 7 points this game.

1 game left day 1. I'm 0-2, but not stressing it. I know I have no chance of making a top table, and that there is a possibility I might not win a game all weekend. However, my goal of not being tabled every single game my first gt has been attained.

Fueled by redbull and domestic beer, I remained optimistic, which I believe may have been the key to winning out my last 3 games

Game 3 was against Curtis, who was playing a sm / ba drop pod ish list with drop pod grav cents, and a mini deathstar of hammernators, chapter master and priest riding in a raven. Once again, opponent was a great guy, we both had quite a few beers this match

This was an even odd mission alternating between modified kill points and 5 objectives. He null deployed, so I was able to infiltrate my tau quite effectively to set me up quite nicely on obj points. Was able to weather the grav once his pods dropped by some timely jinks, and I was able to take him out piecemeal throughout the game. I maybe could have held off on some first turn kills to try to max score, but at this point I just wanted to win the game, so i was just killing everything I could, kill point turn or not. In hindsight I think I could have gotten near max points if i had played the mission more aggressively, but a win is a win.


Game 4 was vs tau (Clay). He was running straight tau, the new hunter cadre and the new heavy fire base (broadsides + riptide). Mission primary was kill points, secondary was modified table corners scored at the end of the game. I crushed the primary, I think the only kill point I gave up was my warlord flyrant; my remaining two flyrants had a single wound left, but luckily they made their grounding checks, and spent the rest of the game vectors striking off the board over one of his riptides.
Won 20-9 or thereabouts. This tournament is the first time I've ever really used non nid allies, the melta blasts doubling out broadsides felt... Dirty.

Strangely I can't find a single thing about what actually happened at the event though. No articles, discussion... nothing. If anybody can point in me in the right direction I'd be grateful. I'm always interested to get the analysis on these tournaments
