Had an idea about pyrovores.

Had an idea about the pyrovore. Could we have different types? Like a fire one, an acid one, and a shock one?

Fire would have a heavy flamer with soul blaze and soul blaze cc attacks. Acid would have a poison template, toxic miasma, and fleshbane cc attacks. Shock ones' template could knock a HP off on a 4+ and their cc attacks have haywire.

Could also have special rules to their explosion too.

Also thinking their template weapon could have two firing modes, assault 1 template and heavy 1 torrent.

Thoughts?

biovores used to have three different types of spore mines back in 4th. they took it out to simplify things. I don't imagine they would go back to it now.

Well, the fluff says it melts metal so how about melta instead?

The problem with the Pyrovore isn't what it shoots, it's the platform itself. It explodes if it's killed taking out anything it's stood next to, BUT as it uses a flamer template in order to actually hit anything it has to stand right on the front line where your enemy will just use in the same manner as the conveniently-placed exploding barrels you get in computer games.

"who in their right mind would think that this... this... thing... was a good idea? It serves no conceivable purpose and there are much better platforms for a flamethrower in the Tyranid bestiary than the body of an indirect fire mortar carrier never intended to even get in visible (please do not swear) range of the god damn enemy. I mean (please do not swear), there's even one in the same (please do not swear) Codex, all you'd need to do for the Tyrannofex is light its acid spray on fire and then BAM! You have a flamer on a non-(please do not swear) platform."

A plastic kit works just fine for me, especially if it was dual-purpose Biovore/Pyrovore. Giving the Pyrovore a torrent flamer so it can butt-chug promethium from a promethium pipeline would be hilarious too.

Give them the option to fire a small blast Melta shot instead of a template, like how Zoeys can fire a Lance or a Blast, and I bet people would take them.

Here's an idea for pyrovores and it didn't come from me: just use them as biovores.

Interesting article.  Reading it over, the fluff, where its filed in the codex (feeder beasts), and looking at the model itself has got me thinking anew.  Shouldn't this thing be a CC monster?  Like a cross between the haruspex and a hormagant?

Unit type: infantry

Weapons & biomorphs: Flamespurt, Rending Claws, acid blood, acid maw
May take;
Adrenal Glands - 5 pts
Toxin Sacs - 2 pts

Special Rules: IB (feed), Very Bulky, Fire proof, Bouding Leap

Flamespurt - Str 5 AP 4 Template
As the pyrovore charges in, the flamespurt weapons unleashes bursts of flame to make the defenders duck for cover.
Gives 1d3 HoW hits at str 5 ap 4 and has assault grenades

Acid Maw - May make an additional attack with this profile str 5 ap 2 melee. Doesn't gain benefit from upgrades

Fire Proof - Does not take damage from flame weapons, see 40k rulebook.

really, the heavy flamer is nice. The platform it's on is nice, aside from the explosions. make it a beast, make acid maw a S:user AP2 attack at I1, and remove the explosions.

Just remove the pyrovore all together and let a warrior pick up a flamespurt every 3 models as an addition to the cannons they can carry.

I like the idea of blowing up in combat. For a game that's so unbalanced and random, it might as well just get even more goofy and fun.

Having beast or torrent rules are fixes i'd agree, but hardly outside of any box.

It's not really a CC monster according to the fluff. The organic cannon mounted on its back is actually a seperate organism, with it's own independant actions. The creature feeds on the biomass, while its cannon buddy protects it.

But yes, I agree that switching its cannons, just like a lemun russ that has multiple options, could be awsome.

as in combining the pyro/bio vore into a single unit? base model, purchasing Spore mine launcher, flamespurt cannon, or some kind of plasma shot? that'd be cool. heck, give em all beasts. I'd love to see Spore mine launchers on beast platforms.
