Does anyone play that fly rants and crones get the 6+ cover save for being in craters? The BRB states that you don't need to be 25% covered to get it and the book doesn't specifically treat FMC differently to MC but even I have trouble claiming that one, I do wonder if others claim it?
Then there are Trygons, people claim it for that guy? I used to argue that the crater could be 10meters deep for all you know, though it doesn't look like it.
What about the Hierodule with one leg in the crater?
After re-reading the rule book I think 25% would seem to apply to intervening models.
Yes you get it in ruins and any terrain that grants an "area" save (technically no such thing as area terrain anymore, but the effect is the same as it used to be).
Trygons probably don't move all up like a cobra as they are modeled. Tell the haters that the trygon is moving quickly along the ground like a giant snake and rears up when it strikes.
Yes to the Hierodule.
Play how you like with your play group. Many people disagree with your assessment on the 25% mandated thing. This is why there are multiple threads with pages and pages of people arguing this, trying to apply "logic" to science fiction toy soldiers, and ultimately still disagreeing. Most of the larger tournaments in the ITC play that intervening models give cover save no matter what (as long as LoS passes through the model or between models). That really doesn't say who's right or wrong, though. It just lets you know what to expect.
