Leviathan reroll IB test - or not?

The Leviathan Hive Fleet Detachment brings this:

Adapted Instincts: You can re-roll the Instinctive Behaviour roll for any unit in this
detachment.

There's been discussion about what the 'Instinctive Behaviour roll' is. Is it the Ld-test, or is it the roll to decide the consequence of a failed Ld-test?

The Fighter Ace rule a few pages earlier in the campaign compendium says:

Lone Hunter: The Fighter Ace automatically passes any Instinctive Behaviour test.

It's been brought up that GW seems to make a difference here between 'test' and 'roll'. That they are supposed to be separate. You only do the ROLL if you fail the TEST.

Or that is just playing on semantics, GW really mean that roll=test.

The way I understood it is the LD test being referenced, is testing for instinctive behavior. And the Roll, is rolling for the result on the chart. In my mind, this means adaptive instincts enables you to reroll the result received from the instinctive behavior table, while the fighter ace perk means you auto pass the test you are required to take.

It could also mean the complete result, IB test + effect role. That is similar to rerolling scatter where both the scatter dice and the distance is rerolled.

Rerolling scatter is just the direction die. What the direction die is defined as is at the start of the brb. There are some effects that make you reroll the whole thing but they specify that's what to do.

The LD part of IB is the only part that is a test.

People seem to confuse this with the Instinctive Behaviour test, which isn't called that anymore.

First, we have the Instinctive Behaviour rule. It comes in 3 different subtypes.

The rule says that when your creature is out of the Synapse range, you make a Ld test. If you fail the test, you roll on the appropriate table.

The part where you roll on the IB table - that's the only roll that the rule is referencing. You also have the "Ld test" part but it's not the same as the "roll". The Ld test has been established by a specific term and it has never been called something else in all of the hardback books.

It does say dice on the ones i've seen. Dice, plural or singular. We may never know

Dice die or w/e, scatter dice are defined only as the directional die in the BRB. Don't have page number but it's in the very early section; this has come up before during LAN discussion.

these are two separate things.

in fighter ace, you reroll the LD test, as it's the only part of IB that's a test. a test has a pass/fail component.

in the levi detachment rule, it says you reroll the IB roll (i.e. the feed, lurk, w/e table).

GW is derp though, so who knows wtf they meant for you to do.

No actually its not. We've been over this.

Either you only re-roll the leadership test. Because
1) its the TEST
2) The Fighter ace rule only makes sense when referring to the leadership test
3) The roll on a table is to see what happens when you have failed a test

The only other way of reading the ruels is to assume that the re-roll applies to everything in the IB so re-rolling both the Ld test and the table roll to see what effect failing the test has

I'm pretty sure it's the result. It's pretty much exactly on the fence; however I agree that the difference between roll and test is the only semantic separation that we have. Adapted instincts also does not seem to indicate a chance at avoiding the instinct, but rather a chance at making it a better one

And there is no such thing as the IB roll, IB rule has two rolls in it, but neither of them are the referred to as the IB roll

there is the roll against leadership that is an IB roll, and the roll to see what a failed test results in which is also an IB roll

But GW use the word 'test' for the Ld test, and 'roll' for the roll on the result chart. From how they phrase it, it really seems 'reroll IB roll' means the chart. Which makes this special rule almost worthless. Which probably is intended.
