Hive Tyrant/Swarmlord w/ Guards and the new Tyrannocyte

I for one am extremely excited about the release of drop pod for the nids. When are new codex dropped, I thought that losing the pod was the biggest loss.

So with the new pod a question came up. If you take a hive tyrant/swarmlord in a pod, can you pay the points for the guard and put them in a separate pod?

There are no rules that state that you can't join a unit after drop podding. They only say that you have to be within 2" of a unit and declare it at the end of the movement phase. This is true even for space marine drop pods.

Yeah, you'd need two since an MC counts as 20.


That being said, if you have a drop pod heavy army, having him on the ground T1 isn't bad. He can make up the second wave.

I'm curious about pod Guard and have Flyrant join after swooping. Is it a can do also?
It would be an odd combo.

Or as previously mentioned, Prime + Guard.

Swarmlord being able to cast catalyst on himself and a shrouding unit after disembarking would be handy.

I would Prime it up in that unit. A CC prime with CC Tyrant Guard same pod. Would be cool IMO. Now the dude has a Use xD Protecting the protectors who shall wreck stuff like vehicles and anything else for that matter.

You can do it, yeah. It would be good for a melee flyrant to have some buddies when he lands.

Yes...and no. You're still not assaulting until turn 3 at best, and prime is still an overcosted PoS. Now you're paying another 75 points for the privilege of dropping him where you want him. This unit will wreck face with w/e it runs up on, but it's $$$ man. Lot of points there. Dunno. Still has all the same problems of cost and no invul.

Everything is back on the table now.

I had the same idea, I don't know how useful it would be but the thought alone makes me giddy.

I have always wanted a way to get hive guard into cc. This might be a good safety net for a flyrant low on wounds.

Spend first few turns flying around being goose and maveric except this time when goose is about to die a giant betentacled spore drops from space spewing forth a load of crushing claw/lash whipping guardians to keep his might on the board a few more turns.

I kinda like that idea or maybe fly the hive tyrant "land" drop pod the guard and have them be within 2" and they automatically join to help him weather shoot and assault something. Break off when done and fly away.

Hmm what do you guys think of an Unguarded Tyrant with dual templates in a pod?
