1000 point tournament list, first one with nids.

Evening gents,

local tournament is being held in a months time so here's what I plan on testing with prior with adjustments to be made over time leading up to it.

Rules of the tournament are nothing with more than 4 wounds and nothing with armour 14 (yes!!)

hive tyrant - twin linked devs, boneswords, regen, old adversary

tyranid prime - boneswords and deathspitter

5 warrior brood - standard with 1 barbed strangler

24 termagaunts - 12 spinefists, 12 devourers, adrenal glands

ripper brood - 3 bases

5 genestealers - scything talons, adrenal glands
1 Broodlord with adrenal glands and regen

comes in at 981 points.

the gaunts can be split so it's 6 each in 2 broods for mobility if necessary. Adrenal glands on most things as they can all inflict damage on anything that will be in this tournament if I charge (it's nids, Ofcourse im charging haha)

it will be changed around and il probably upload the battle reports at some point to justify the decisions.

any criticism? Constructive or not haha.

Well ... it's probably not the most competitive build, but you know your own meta and ambitions, I suppose. I do like the mixed termagant broods, though I'd skip adrenal glands on them - they're better off shooting. Two things that are likely to be a problem are AV13 and fliers. If you go up against Necrons it won't be pretty. Electro shock grubs on the tyrant at least?

If you're looking to win I'd probably have done a more cookie cutter build, though it won't score any points for originality, of course. (2xflyrant 2xtld, esg, deepstriking ripper swarms, etc)

I'm sure flyers are not allowed in the tournament aswell..il double check tonight. Also there isn't many necron players around this area so I'm hoping I don't come against them (hoping!)

Being new on here and having a look around it seems electro shock grubs are a wise choice although I never thought about it myself. Thanks for that also, il try and squeeze that in somehow.

First game testing this tonight against imperial guard. There's a league at our local store and he's at the top so should be a good fight. Will report back what happens.

As for the adrenal glands on the gaunts, I used this in a smaller points game a few weeks back and they destroyed (glanced to death) two chimeras and their squads within, I was extremely lucky with my dice rolling and he foolishly avoided targeting them and going for the Warriors. I admit this may not be as effective at 1000 points but we shall see.

Right, first battle at this points and I won 7-4 on victory points (new missions and 4 turns for quickness) against imperial guard with space marine allies. Can't remember his actual list one tank and a load of guardsmen, but the wayvern upset my happiness

No actual batrep as not much time to write it down by the time I've got time il have forgotten, so....

Points to take into consideration

Genestealers, didn't do much, Broodlord not exciting in close combat but was good, killed 4 of a 6 man tactical squad over 2 turns of combat.Did secure an objective due to infiltrate rule. Rest of squad was taken out by wayvern

Ripper swarms- sat them on an objective in my own deployment zone. potential deep strike?

Test hive guard instead of genestealers? Better for taking on tanks I feel. Although not needed in this battle.

Synapse poor, need more creatures to produce synapse as gaunts almost went out of range too many times.

Gaunts, split into tow units of twelve, did what gaunts do... Warriors were the same. Hive tyrant did nothing except give out synapse.

Ripper Swarms:
You used them correctly. They're perfect for sitting at your own backfield objectives, as they are cheap and don't "need" synapse. Yes, they may attack themselves, but they're generally not able to inflict any significant damage.
The thing about deep striking them is that you can drop them directly onto an objective you need to take (especially in maelstrom), and then just hide them out of sight because the models are so short. Also, they won't get shot at while they are in reserves.

Hive Guard vs Genestealers: I'd the take the HG if you have them.

Synapse: If you have another warrior I'd suggest running two broods of three. Let's you bring a BS for each squad as well as providing more synapse.

Also, if you have venomthropes (or malanthrope), bring them.

Thanks for the reply, still a month until the tournament so plenty of time! Hive guard I own but not assembled or painted, I'd rather have them painted before bringing them to the table. I'm weird like that.

Taking the genestealer brood out and replacing with 3 hive guard would free up enough points for a venomthrope.

As for splitting the Warriors up I could keep a unit of 5 and then put the prime in with a gaunt brood to give them constant synapse? Just a thought.

Dark eldar this time around. Made me rethink the whole 1000 point setup lost 3-2 in big guns never tire.

He had a squad of jet bikes and then 2 full of warriors and 2 heavy support vehicles, sorry I don't know the names :/

Brought out the same force as first game.

Things to take from this...

- mobility - he won hands down on this and it's what won him the battle being able to zim around the board and get the last of the objectives I hadn't got. My nids are slow moving to say the least.

- big guns - I have nothing in this list that can take on anything with armour over 10. Unless in close combat. Which I couldn't get to (see mobility haha)

So with these in mind I set about a new list...as follows:

Flyrant - twin linked devs, boneswords, regen, electro grubs and hive commander
2 hive guard with impaler cannons
1 zoanthrope
3 warriors brood - standard
3 warrior brood - barbed strangler
2 units of 12 gaunts with 6 spinefists and 6 devourers
Ripper brood - 3 bases
6 genestealers - scything talons and a Broodlord

Taken away adrenal glands from all units freed up points and whatnot. Going to use outflank on a warrior brood and to replace the synapse they produced going to keep a zoanthrope near one gaunt brood and the other warriors next to everything else. Impaler cannons to help with vehicles. Plus now I realise how much give tyrants need wings!!

Unless you are dead set on taking stealers I would cut them from your list, free up some points and restructure.

Can't manage the tournament which starts this evening. Gutted as was really looking forward to it!

Played around 4 battles since the last update. Only change to the list was taking the zoanthrope out and replacing it with another hive guard. Reasoning was due to the serious amount of tank spammers in my local area!

Had mixed results. Drew one due to time constraints and won one and lost two. All been respectable in their own right.

Although all these new models are tempting and make me feel I'm behind with the times. Think il stick this list out a bit longer
