Just got back from day 1 of a tourney.
Was good fun so far and currently 2-1 up with my Skyblight list.
I do however have kill points to come in day 2 which isn't a good mission for me as I can bleed kill points.
For note worthy lists:
Interestingly there were 3 lists all running treble Wraith knight.
1 think 2 lists running 2 WK's.
A treble Riptide list with allied Wraith Knight.
Necron Allies with Necron Allies, some void shield thing, 4 night scythes, 4 annihilation barges, couple of Ghost Arks.
Couple of Drop Pod Marines.
Couple of daemon lists, 1 screamer council with lots of Hounds, other list i think was beasts of Nurgle and Soulgrinders.
Hardly no Tau that I could see and I was the only Nid player
Very brief run down of games:
Game 1, Clense and Control, vanguard (Maelstrom)
Opponent: Treble Wraith knights, 4 Wave Serpents, squad of Spiders, some Jetbikes and 2 Farseers?.
We deployed objectives,
He won the roll for sides and he chose the right corner which put me in a bad position during deployement.
He deployed very well where it was nearly impossible for not to get shot by some stuff.
I had to get cover from some ruins way back but it was still impossible to get everything within both venoms without a little risky deployment which I tried to place as best I could to prevent casualties.
He took first blood by killing a Venom and then a Flyrant also who died to an ID wound as then he only had a 4+ jink.
First turn he had one objective twice which he was right next to and took first blood putting him on 3 already.
I had to start too far back so my alpha was lamed plus his deployment was solid.
I didn't score any vp's first round because I couldn't down a Wave serpent and my other cards weren't achievable.
Rapping up the game I just couldn't put enough hurt on his wave serpents and scoring units.
I was catching up towards the end but he played it well, had a tough list, got to choose deployment zones and went first.
He also had a better draw of cards than me so the whole game lent in his favour more so than mine.
I think if it was the reverse concerning setup and cards the game could have been very different.
The game ended 6-4 to him.
Game 2, Emp's Will + Relic, Hammer and Anvil.
Opponent: Treble Wraith Knight (again!) , 2 Serpents, 2 War Walkers with lances, unit of Spiders, 2 units of jet bikes and 2 Farseers.
Placed objectives, he won deployment zone and to go first.
I had to start further back again in Ruins and castled my flyers and everything else around the venoms which were hidden from view.
My game plan here was take both the home and away objectives because there was very little chance of me taking the Relic.
His first turn he grabs the Relic with a squad of bikes and heads backwards.
I have a 2+ save for all of my flyers but he lands 2 wounds on the Crone and I roll double 1's.
I think he did a wound also to a Flyrant.
Rapping up towards the end, my game plan had worked.
I intendedly killed everything but the Wraith Knights and Warlord by turn 4 and took his objective with deep striking Gargoyles.
I had to sacrifice at least one flyer to a wraith Knight to keep him busy.
I held my objectives with warriors, Biovores and Venoms. I kept an incoming Wraith Knight at bay with the 30 Termagants.
I also took Line breaker to finish 7-4 to me
Game 3, Dawn of War, Crusade, 5 Objectives.
Opponent, A Forgeworld Necron lord, not sure who. 2 Ghost arks with Warriors, 4 Annihilation barges (yes 4), 4 Nights scythes with warriors and some Void Shield AV12 thing with 12 inch range for his tanks.
I get to choose deployment zone and to go first
I deploy all my flyers with a venom in a ruin towards one side of my board edge apart from the Crone, he sets up behind a huge central line of sight blocking terrain.
Everything deployed again apart from the Gargoyles who are again deep striking.
He sets up at the back centre board behind the huge centre terrain piece.
I made him go first
He kills a few termagants and puts a few wounds on a few Vores and Warriors from Tesla on his second turn when 3 of his scythes come in.
I had flown all of my flyers off on my turn 1 and left a Crone there for bait (because I couldn't get him off the table edge...doh.
He took first blood from a biovore.
I flew everything on and dealt with 2 Night scythes plus a barge.
He was a little out of position to get everything shooting at me because I was clever to use the centre piece of terrain and concentrate my fire on a couple of targets per turn.
To rap up it was a very close game and the star of the show were the deep striking Gargoyles with objective secured.
It was also because I chose to go second so I could contest going last and have last go at the objectives.
In addition, the Gargoyles were very useful to block some of his movement.
The game ended 7-1 to me (2 Objectives, Line breaker - First blood).
So that's it for now.
I think I'm just above midway for rankings.
It's going to be a tough day tomorrow with some further tough games against some nasty lists.
I'd like to come away 3-2 so lets see...
Well that was a hard tourney, the last few games didn't go that well
Game 4, Big Guns, 3 Objectives, Hammer and Anvil.
Opponent: 1 Scout Speeder + Scouts, 1 Rhino & 10 Marines, Lysander, 5 Grav Cents, 4 Las Cents, Chimera & 10 Guard, Squad of two tanks taken as HQ, a Punisher and another tank both AV14 facing under a Skyshield. 2 Wyverns sitting on top with Centurions..
With a quick summary initially I thought I was going to take this. But after dealing with his standard scoring units and loosing a flyer per turn I couldn't kill the 2 squads of Centurions who scored both mid table objectives.
I made a few mistakes which didn't help giving away free movement to one unit of Cents by charging them with Spore Mines when I should have just blocked his movement. that could have changed things. In the end it was a close game with him taking it 8-6.
That was really my chance to walk away 3-2 overall.
Skyshields are a b****
Game 5, Purge the Alien, Dawn of war.
Opponent: Mega armoured warboss with mega Nobs in a Trukk. 2 squads of boys? Pretty sure you have to take 3. 30 Lootas and an Ork Stompa all sitting on a Skyshield. 2 Big Meks and a Grot riggers inside the stompa...
Just looking at the list I knew I was in trouble this game.
He took first blood when I failed a 2+ cover save on a Harpy from the big Stompa blast his first turn.
I tried to keep most of my stuff off the board and the rest spread out in two different ruins.
By turn 3 I had killed all of his Lootas and lost a Biovore, Harpy and Crone.
I had stripped off several hull points off the Stompa from the haywire templates touching it through the lootas (by the way, 30 Lootas on a Skyshield that are fearless is hard to move).
I also managed to get round the back of the Stompa turn 4 doing 5 hull points to it but he managed to repair nearly every hull point through Meks and IWND.
He put his incoming Ork troops in the Stompa also and I just could not kill the Stompa to catch up with kill points.
It ended 9-4 to him.
So 2 very tough games today, perhaps with different opponents I would have come away a little more satisfied than I did.
The killpoint match up was horrendous although I may have given the Big Guns game away through mistakes.
I like the list, I do think with better play and a little better matchup luck I could do better.
I don't think the list needs to change but it's tempting to fiddle.
I ended with 28 victory points in the bottom half.
