Stuff that would make pyrovores more fun and/or effective

Hi everyone,

  As I'm sure most of you know... pyrovores suck.  And it's a shame because they look cool.

besides obvious numbers adjustments, what kind of tweaks would you make for these guys?

For example we could give them:
Torrent
A secondary firing mode
Deep Strike
But this is all pretty basic.  I'm looking for stuff that's a bit more unique/

Personally i like the idea of a smoke bomb.  They fire it ahead of themselves as a large blast.  Thick smoke now blocks line of sight, but can be moved through as normal.  A creature that can create fire should also be able to create smoke.

I also think making them beasts would help them cover the much needed ground (seriously, why are raveners our only "beasts"?

they really don't need much beyond a )drastic price drop and/or b)torrent. boom, unit fixed and beloved.

You can look at my thread in this forum about my 1850 point battle v Necrons under my homebrew dex's rules. I made Pyrovores Beasts and the Flamespurt was an S5 AP3 flamer and they were 45 points each, but I realized after playing once that they needed a price hike up to 60 points each and I reduced the Flamespurt to S4.

Part of the reason I feel more inclined to increase a units effectiveness to be worth the amount of points it is in the official 'dex is because if I just make them what they're actually worth, that means I have WAY more models that I'm gonna need to buy/paint

I think either torrent or deepstrike is a must. I would prefer the DS myself. Few points down would be useful as well.

I never cared for the model, so never put much into the rules. But I do love me some "counts as", and as I'm painting up a nice shooty bug model from a non-GW company, I may try one out as a proxy. I think things that are classified as feeder-beasts should fill that role, in either the beast (oh mammy, give my haru that!) or feeder, in some manner. If it is designed to consume, give it some acid-maw that perhaps acts as a poison (fixed number) attack in CC, or the beast classification, which I don't see as acting very well with it personally.

I ran them during our last book, despite everyone hating them. And enjoyed that actually.

Now it's a bit harder, with losing spore and their old agnore armour attacks, but I still want to ake a list where they'll fit. Pyros still bring a lot of wounds, which fit to our strategy, also they may be covered with shrouded and surrounded with more likely targets for s8, like Warriors and stuff. They clearly should act as a second wave of the assault, lacking Fleet and MfC, and pile in happily into any unit engaged in a fight already.
Maybe someday I'll try something like this.
It's incredibly great to see the face of man, who was beaten by pyrovores. I'll never grow tired of watching these.

Current Rules
Step 1: Apply Pyrovore on top of sheet of paper
Step 2: Voila

GW fix it rules:
Step 1: Cut by another 5-10 points
Step 2: Give native fleet
Step 3: ><

Tyranid Fix rules:
Step 1: Change to Assault 2
Step 2: Operate as separate model broods
Step 3: Give Symbiotic targeting, allowing it to run and shoot instead of +1 BS like Exocrine.
Step 4: Add 5 points and make the instakill explosion d6 range S6AP3 (not quite plasma, but dangerous.)

GW moneymaking route:
Step 1: Make dual kit with new awesome unit.
Step 2: ??
Step 3: Profit
Step 4: 180° at next rules stir up. Repeat stages 2-4.

Monstrous creature that can be added to any unit as an upgrade.

Give the player some control over when it goes boom and make the boom useful for killing something other than tyranids.

IMO Pyrovores are a plodding along BURN AND NOM unit, not an actual "beast" that's a fast attack 12" flanker. Look at that thick carapace and the size of the main weapon; clearly designed to spaff grotty death over an area in front of the 'Vore, just not immediately in front of it. All it needs is a 3+ save and torrent to be more useful and resilient.

Alternatively, instead of a 3+ save the Pyrovore can have the Stealth USR due to constantly venting smoke making it difficult to accurately hit. That would provide a load of synergy with Venomthropes where the 'Thrope keeps the 'Vore hidden and the 'Vore protects the 'Thrope from incoming threats. While they are both multi-wound neither are particularly resilient in assault they're still fairly deadly with the 'Thrope wounding on a 2+ and the 'Vore capable of ignorning armour saves & acid blood. But I wouldn't really advise using them in an assault role...
