How safe is mailing stuff directly to someone? How likely would I get screwed?

I have used it a decent amount to great success. The deal is Bartertown etiquette means the person with the lower rating mails first. Then upon getting their items they mail to the person with the lower rating. Be very specific about what you are trading and don't leave out any details as it will come back on you. I once traded $1,000 in Warmachine models. Since he had a great rating I mailed first and waited. He came through. I would hesitate to send that amount of a trade to someone with only one or trade good references. I will continue to use it.

i've used it some, never had a trade go bad from there, heck i even used to use it 15+ years ago. Reputation there means everything so only buy from those that have at least some rep for starters. Folks will usually go out of their way to maintain their rep if they are interested in continuing to use that site

I use bartertown quite a bit and haven't been burned yet (knock on wood). The key while you are getting going is to look for people with really high feedback ratings, sure you will have to send/pay first but you aren't going to get hosed.

There are also a few retailers on B-town that offer 25-30% off retail and you get Btown feedback when you purchase from them so if you don't have a FLGS, it's a great way to build rep and get a nice deal.
