Two month painting competition - May/June

Well because jivetyrant haven't made 1 yet and lots of people want it so i will manage this one for him.

We use a points system for models based on size. The idea is to do a minimum of 20 competition points in two months, scored as follows.

Infantry, 25mm base= 1 point
Cavalry, bikes, or 40mm base = 2 points
Monstrous creature, Dreadnought, or terrain larger than 40mm base = 5 points
Vehicle or models on a large oval base (ex harpy/trygon/exocrine) = 10 points
Wraithknight or Imperial Knight = 15 points
Superheavy, gargantuan = 20 points

And here's the unique bit - we have a badge system, so that if you paint over 400 points (Codex type points) you can have an "Swarmlord" Achievement badge in your signature. So that even if you don't win the competition, you get recognition for going that extra mile. Yes, I still intend to make these.

Here are the rules:

1. You must post in this thread the list you are painting (it doesn't need to be legal unit sizes) AND a picture of the unpainted models (they may be primed though). You can do this any time from now until the end of the competition.

2. You must paint at least 20 competition points of models according to the list above, completely including bases (unless they are transparent flying bases).

3. You must post pictures of the finished models to this thread before the end of 30th June 2014. Ideally no more than 5 pictures in total, but you must clearly state that they're the final ones for entry in your post. If you don't, you stand the risk of me missing your hard work hidden in 10 pages of posts - it's for your own good. You'll thank me for it later.

You can post updates as you go along, for feedback and to encourage others.

Once all the entries are posted, I'll generate a poll so that the entries can be voted on. We are looking for quality of painting. This is a competition. A signature badge will be awarded to the winner and the second place runner up. A badge will also be awarded to anyone who paints over 400 Codex points, whether they win or not. These badges are somewhat mythical, but they are coming soon.

What I think you are doing is great. I just think you need to edit your post. Point 3, have pictures posted before April 30th? I think you just did a Claissic GW booboo. Copy and paste without rereading.

I'm starting a new army at the moment, stuff should arrive in just over a week. When I realised my 1850 points of nids are never going to fit into fewer than three carrying cases I decided they're going to have to gather dust for a while. I should be able to manage 5 terminators and 10 marines by the end of June (Alpha Legion)

Can we clarify: Vehicle or Trygon/Mawloc/Tervigon = 10 points

There were some questions on the previous comp that never got answered as to whether the Harpy\Crone or Haruspex\Exocrine qualify as 10 points, or just 5? Personally I think they should be 10, but it would be great to know for sure before we start painting them.

Here's my list of primed models:

3 Warriors (with an attached painted guardsman) 6 pts
1 lictor/deathleaper 2 pts
3 fexes (will be stripped and repainted in my hive fleet's colors) 15 pts
12 h gaunts 12 pts
12 stealers 12 pts
1 box of 12 fresh t gaunts 12 pts
24 gaunts (primed with white carapaces, needed to have color for a game) 24 pts
custom built 5 piece ruins set (no clue how to run points on that!)
1 scratch-built realm of battle table set (still no idea!)
1 fresh haruspex/exocrine that'll be magnetized 10 pts
1 kitbashed flyrant (not pictured, just a messy bits box) 5 pts
1 old one eye (carnifex box on the way, not pictured) 5 pts

total: (not counting terrain and game table) 102 competition points,
(raw, no upgrades) 1507 codex points




THESE guys are gonna be the interesting part. Have never stripped paint before. And YES those are rending claws on the right fex. I don't have any beefy scy tals for him to swap out for yet, might steal them from the exocrine kit.

My big question is how many points the haruspex is, points for terrain, and points for an entire game board.

Yes all models on the oval bases are worth 10 poins. The knight models Will get there own point class.

I'm in! I'm at the mercy of my wallet keeping up with a new Death Korps of Krieg addiction, so I will be painting as I go. However, I do have enough models to make a run in this competition, so I'm in!

Alright! Ok. So this time, I'm determined. I just have to finish the Haruspex that I've been painting since January, and then I will be going nuts (nuts for me, who spent four months painting a single MC...)

So here's the plan:
Hive Crone - Most important! It's still in its box! (10 Pts)
Trygon - So excited for this one. I am stripping a previously painted Trygon to bring it into line with the changing viewpoint on my army's color scheme AND so I can convert an awesome Reaper of Obliterax for him! (10 pts)

If I need to, I can stop here and just assemble the rest for the next comp, but I like to go to tournaments with fully painted armies, so I may keep going, or even mix these in while working on the other two:

Termies - Most likely, I'll paint these slowly alongside whatever else I'm painting. I have 20 left to go, not counting the handful a friend owes me. (20 pts.)
Venomthropes - I have three, waiting to go. (6 pts.)
Flyrant - A semi-Kitbash. I'm having a lot of trouble getting what I need for it though (hence the semi... would like to make it full blown), while I'm mentioning it, does anyone have a spare Trygon head or Harpy Wings? (5 pts.)
Swarmlord - Would be a strip and repaint. It's just a walking Tyrant now, but it has a plain base, and I may as well repaint it if I have to paint all the arms and swords. (5 pts.)

Just to clarify, do you need everything assembled all in one pic as your entry to begin with? Or can you assemble a unit, snap it, paint it. Then assemble a unit, snap it, paint it etc..?

I believe that is what you do. Show us before you paint it, then at the end show us all your painted minis.
