I'm always amazed at how fast some of you are at painting and how good the results are... I saw your blog where you started clipping the thing on January 31st. And now, a week later, your beast is famous enough to be on the GW blog... good job mate.

For crying out loud... i remember when the Tervigon kit came out... I estimated a total of 70 hours, over a period of 5 weeks, into the model... and its nowhere near golden deamon standards... I really need to work on the "speed" aspect of my painting... But I digress.. Good job man

Airbrush is the key, especially on monstrous creatures. You can base coat the large areas in literally SECONDS.

I actually finished it on Sunday! BUT, to be absolutely honest, I binge painted all weekend - literally 10-12 hours a day, friday, saturday & sunday. It's not something I normally do because I get burned out, but the GW guy emailed me last wednesday and said he'd post it this week if I could finish by the weekend. I wasn't gonna pass up the chance to get coverage, so, much to the chagrin of my wife, I locked myself in my hobby room and went nuts.

I don't think I'd do it again. Normally, I hobby for about an hour a day, after work. Large MC's like this one take a 3 to 4 weeks to complete. Having cranked all weekend, I did burn out, and haven't touched my hobby stuff for days, and don't feel like doing so any time in the near future. It's been weeks since I've played, that always inspires me, though.

if you dont mind can you do a tutorial of your ST and claws on your blog? i love how you did your greys and its how ive been wanting to do mine. im a noob panter so cant figure it out =).

your models are awesome as always.

Do you do most of your painting via airbrush? I recently was an airbrushed army, and was amazed at how much detail an airbrush could do...

What percentage of your painting on a model is airbrush vs regular brush?


Does the marine attach via magnet?

I do all my priming and base coating using airbrush. On the haruspex, the grey primer was airbrushed over the entire model, then then bone white was airbrushed over the body, leaving the carapace alone. I then used poster putty, stretched into large cloth-like shapes, to cover the bone white on the body, like a mask. This allowed me to airbrush the black onto the carapace without overspray getting on the body. The putty quickly peels off, and is reusable.

Large models like this are about 50/50. priming, base coating and gradients are done with the airbrush. all the detail work is done with regular brushes. On smaller units like warriors or gants, it's about 30/70. It's just not worth the time and effort to use poster putty to mask every little carapace, so it's easier to airbrush the bone white, and then paint brush the carapace base coat.

Yeah, the marine attaches by a mangent, just like the one on my Trygon/Mawlock. I've buried it in the tongue, and put one in the marine's belt.

Ah, so the carapace is black, then dark purple, then light purple..?? Are there more than 3 colors involved? Do you do anything to help blend them into each other?


Finally found a color scheme I am happy with, and so now I start having a ton of questions...
