The one thing about GW putting out something right after the codex, I think is wrong. First we complain that GW takes forever to release anything. Then we complain when they release things quickly.
This data slate doesn't look like anything it would be in the Nid codex. There is no other rules or stats that seem to be in the codex that these were left out automatically. I don't see or recall any other codex who have these rules in their codex either. So right now, I think we are complaining for complaining sakes. If I am wrong, what is in this data slate that should have been in the codex, that other codexes have?
I have to disagree Davor. Many people complained in the past that GW was slow in releasing dexes and about 4-5 months after 6th ed came out dexes were released much more quickly then before, so in general most people would be happy with that (this is the dex - not counting additional rules supplements of one type or another). So even with a faster dex release s number of people were hoping that a faster release didn't mean less effort in the product (not saying that is the case in general but it is a valid concern). Customers are right to complain or be concerned when a fast release of dexes and additional dex supplements at the same time result in a poor product that GW will likely not correct for some time (if only there was some means to correct poorly written rules/stats etc that could be accessed by most everyone - like the internet - oh too bad the internet is still just a dream. Of course I would rather GW take the time to do a good job in the first place and correct errors/misjudgemeents with errata).
With regard to the dataslate - the dex is acknowledged by many to be poorly done with a lot of copy paste and failure to fix previous issues but here comes another bunch of additional rules at the same time. First do you see in the dex lictors being taken in many lists - not likely since even though they went down in price they are not very good. What if in the dex they got rules that gave them shrouded in woods or let them infiltrate a lot closer than BRB would normally allow? Why couldn't taking lictors be outside the FOC so that they don't take up a slot? Why can't lictors have some interesting rules to make them functional (not OP) and desired choices? We don't need a dataslate for this - these types of ideas should have been in the dex in the first place.
How many people are using genestealers? Since their issues from the 5th ed dex weren't addressed in this dex they won't likely be used that much - or not because they are good choices. But what if GW gave them some options to deploy in the dex such as infiltrating within 6" of enemy units if in ruins or hidden from view because of LOS terrain. They could have gotten various options to provide some versatility and usefulness within the dex - again not done to be OP but to make them decent choices for the cost. This should have happened within the dex - it did not.
So complaining that after paying a high price for the poor dex and then having to pay again for a dataslate that should have had these type of ideas within the dex is valid IMO. If a decent job was done with these units in the dex (or at least honestly attempted) and then a dataslate with some other options was released a year plus later that would be different - either to add some new spice or to compensate for problems in the dex. This is just a money grab and GW should not be rewarded for gouging players in this way.
