How do others plan to keep the Crones/Harpies in synapse?

So we have two new cool looking flyers and they can do some neat stuff, but they're useless to us if we don't keep them in synapse and they fail the check.

Wondering how others are thinking of handling fielding these units and keeping them in synapse.

Running 2 Flyrants, plus will probably keep the Crones near my deployment for the first 2-3 turns.

And they have Ld 10, so even if they get out of synapse, not likely to be a problem.

Hold in reserve a turn me thinks, their T value leaves them a bit vulnerable to heavy weapons. Though since the last tyranid FAQ is now obsolete(which specifically allowed harpies and Flyrants to deepstrike), RAW our flyrants and other FMC's can't deepstrike so that's no longer an option technically(RAW). People might argue this but the BRB only allows FMC's to use jump MC rules in movement, not deployment. 

Otherwise hiding them behind large terrain is the only go I'd consider.

If we get deepstrike back, a ninja deepstrike to nuke enemy armor might become beneficial.

Shrikes might keep pace decently... obviously a Flyrant would... and yeah, I think Ld10 is enough until the rest of your bugs get there. I was worried at first, expecting them to have the standard 7-8, but I don't see much of an issue with these guys.

They are Ld10. I have run mine out of synapse in all 4 games I've used them so far and haven't had a single problem

Not only Ld10, they are also Fearless so worse case they shoot at the closest unit.

I finally got to play one last night in a small 1500 point game. I flew it as a distraction/support for the tyrant. When they both hit my opponents backfield, the tyrant went to the right and the crone went to the left...i just flew her off the board and into ongoing reserves after a successful VS on a unit of scouts in some ruins. next turn she came back in and i was able to position her into synapse easily.

ongoing reserves can help save you from a turn of getting shot at. since you are guaranteed to come back in, it could be a tactic worth considering.

dakkathrope - are you running two Crones?

I am building my two flyers at the moment, and plan to run each one with a Flyrant, likely on either flank of the table, to provide synapse to my outflanking 30 gants no matter what side they arrive on.

Not only are they fearless and Ld10, but both apply to the single model rules. Negating the negatives of hunt and feed. All of our MC are actually gravy out of Synapse because all that can happen is they roll a 6 and get a bonus. The more games I play (up to 7 now,) the more I realize all that it is really good still for certain models to run out of check.

I'm sure the BRB says you can DS.
Jump states that any model that 'moves like Jump' also follows all of it's other rules.
Which include DS.

No, I fight a lot of infantry blobs, and usually only 1 flier at the most, so I typically run one of each. So far the Harpy has, on average, out performed the crone. The crone did work really well against both Eldar and dark eldar.

an FMC is also a jump unit, it has deep strike by default.

I don't see that in the rules.
