Could the nerf on Trygon attacks backfire on GW!

Now correct me if i am wrong and this is probably being a bit cheeky and hopeful
But now that a trygon has 5 attacks base... I checked the FAQ for the smash rule and you half your attacks if you wanna make a smash attack meaning the trygon makes 3... Same as before... However the FAQ says you round up smash attacks if an odd number and then... You add bonus attacks such as charges and now the trygons paired weapons! Meaning it makes 5 smash attacks!!!

Yep, although I think backfire is not the right word for it.

On the charge: 5 smash or 7 regular
No charge: 4 smash or 6 regualar

Yes this is correct. The trygon has one more attack when smashing now. The only area this change really shows itself is when paying for a dakkafex. Used to have 4, now has 3 and can't get additional because it holds devourers. Then again, for 40 points less I am willing to make the trade.

Its most definitely a nerf - it lost attack rerolls.

A trygon was always hitting practically everything on a 3+. Having rerolls was an overkill in the first place. Even if you botch your attacks you are just fine. You are fearless and you are involved in combat already. There is practically nothing that can harm you. So really botching doesn't mean anything.

Trygon is just the same thing overall. Trygon Prime with miasma cannon, now that's a treat.

yes because hitting with 4 attacks on average is not nearly terrible, I mean it wasn't like it reliably hit with 6 before right?

Well, at 200+ points for a non synapse T6 MC that could easily die to AP3 rocket spam while trying to slowly march up the field, has the tallest profile in the game (at the time) and has to get into CC to be effective at all it should be hitting at nearly 90%. It was probably one of the more balanced units in our previous Dex, but they did have to find some way to sell the new shiny toy at the time.

Also, yeah its non-synapse meaning it tests for instinctive behavior. It's IB however is feed, which isn't bad at all. Being a single model unit, it has a 1/3 chance of getting rage. So I don't know if that helps but that's one more attack.


edit: sorry my bad, it's only a 1 in 6 chance of getting rage and even rage isn't that good lol

To me, it was the new IB rules that nerfed the Trygon. Previously, I WANTED the Trygon to be out of synapse and get angry (extra attack)

You already got jumped on for this, but that's a lazy, sloppy understanding of math. Hitting on a 3+ means you miss 33% of your attacks. It's significant.

Only the Prime version can get the bio-artefacts.

Bwahahaha..... sorry, but I would *gladly* pay 10pts for a 33% increase in hits. Not to mention the insurance against really bad rolls. This is a serious nerf....

Oh well. I'll be honest, for a moment I was convinced that the electroshock weapon would be haywire. When I found out it wasn't, my disappointment kind outweighed the loss of rerolls.

Still, definitely puts a damper on the Trygon's ultimate killing power.

Would I play in this edition with nids, I would take 2 carnifex over one trygon any day of the week. More attacks, more wounds, I believe same speed and much easier to hide. For what like 60 points more than a stock trygon?
