Stupid Nid tricks in new codex.

We did this when 6the came out so post any cool, interesting or stupid combos or rules that you can find. Not a bashing thread, so keep it to real head scratchers or over locked utilities.

Some I and others have found:

Spore mines that are placed after biovores missing a shot can then assault into the unit they missed in the following assault phase.

If you have CC Nids with flesh hooks they can overwatch with them.

Shrikes don't have wings (technically).

Miasma ignores cover even though it is a CC attack and ignores cover anyway.

Attacks that happen during Assaults still specify Ignores Cover because not everything that happens during the Assault Phase does. If you blow up a Vehicle in CC while in Area Terrain, for instance, you'll get to take Cover Saves against Wounds caused by the Explosion.

The main one I've noticed people misreading is actually kind of a downer: When Biovores miss, it just places d3 Spore Mines, regardless of the number of Models in the Brood, not d3 per Biovore. Also, if the first one misses, it automatically goes to placing Spore mines, you don't get a chance to flip the other Blasts back onto the target like with other Multiple Barrages.

There was also a bit of fluff/rules fail regarding Hormagaunts that kind of cracked me up: The fluff says that the Hive Mind typically leaves Hormagaunts to their own tendencies during an invasion, but Rules-wise, if you do that, they eat each other

Lurkers and hunters actually benefit from being out of synapse most of the time, assuming you are using cover anyway and moving toward your preferred target.

Solo MCs in particular benefit from all IBs, with a chance to gain USRs.

I plan to build a Termite Hill of Redemption. Fill in my AA and long range weaponry needs, infiltrate Lictors into it. Now have a massive beacon for Mawlocs and when my warriors reach it turn 1/2 a massive, durable synapse node. The rest of the army then uses it for Los blocking cover during the advance and can move through it via access points. No one will dare approach with Cc warriors and lictors inside and Mawlocs popping around it.

The new Psy powers are great for a Flyrant, with even onslaught giving him another 2d6 threat range (rerolled if fleet)

Shadow and Horror cripple any Elder that come out of wave serpents, especially jetaseer councils.

yeah venoms/zoans in a bunker seem like a good idea. synapse is a problem; a dominion zoanthrope in a fort gives a big fat bubble. venoms will give shrouded to units holding objectives ideally in terrain out of LoS behind the fort. zoans firing quadgun/icarus is just sweet sweet irony. ride this one till the FAQ hits.

problem is it's a 200 point brick, before add-ons.

You're forgetting that tyranids can't fire emplaced weapons. Too bad the hive mind can't eat equestria so it too can manipulate objects without thumbs

That was part of an old codex FAQ, without anything prohibiting in the codex, coupled with the fact our weapons are designed to work closer to other armies, we can in fact now fire Emplaced weapons.

I thought it was interesting that the spore entry specifies that the strength caps at 10. But, if it starts at strength 4 and increases by one for each spore, the maximum that could ever be achieved is a strength 9 and that's only if you took a maximum size brood. So anyway, just feels like lazy writing... Was it so powerful in play testing all these strenth 11 spore assaults? Then I thought, maybe they could get multiple assaults and two squads could combine? The book says "the entire cluster" which seems to refer to only one unit goes at a time. cluster isnt defined anywhere. So what happens if multiassault?

Anyway, I'm was thinking of taking small units to deploy and get cover saves from. Nothing says they must deep strike right?

^this. if old FAQ was still in effect, we'd still have biomancy.

walk a TFex up the board side ways so your front guy has a +2sv. then stick something you want to move up the board and protect behind it in a V formation so now they get a +5 cover. now place venomthrope in middle of V formation so Tfex has +2 armor and a 5+ cover, protected unit behind Tfex gets a 3+ cover and venomthrope gets a 3+ cover and possible LOS issues. if you bring that unit through terrain that's a 2+ cover for it now.

do you know where it was questioned why we couldnt use emplaced weapons to begin with? was it stated in our old codex we couldnt man weapon emplacements so they FAQ it to also read emplaced weapons?

no, it was stated in the FAQ. the old codex was out wayyy before there were fortification rules in regular 40k. it was another one of those 'prime in a pod? nope lol' moments they just gave us restrictions no other army has for no particular reason.

this didn't work well last codex, i dunno how well it's going to work now even with the shrouding due to all the ignores cover shooting, and just high volumes of shooting in general. tfex is just plasma/gravgun bait.
